I hate keys. True keyless entry and push button start?

I have a 2004 GT and I hate keys. All jokes aside, I was curious if there was a true keyless unlock (no remote button press) and a push button start mod.

If you want to walk up to the car and have it unlock without doing anything, get in and just push a button to start you are in for an inordinate amount of work.

Later on RX-8s starting in 2006 did have the option to get Mazda's advanced keyless entry system.

This was a credit card shaped key that you could keep in your pocket. There are door request buttons on the door handles to lock/unlock the car, and a trunk request button. There was no push button start, but a knob you turned on the steering column like a key. The key never has to leave your pocket.

There is no easy way to retrofit the 2004 car with the Advanced keyless system so forget about that.

Also, every push button start that I have ever seen installed in older 8s still requires the key to be turned to the "ON" position, then the button can be pressed until the car starts. More of a novelty than anything else.

Basically what I am saying is that you are in for more work than most people on here are capable of, and if you have to ask...

Perhaps you'd like to trade cars? :D

Seriously, mine came with the advanced key system, and it is a disaster. Not only is the auto-lock/unlock function *disabled* by default (as described in the manual, and you need an "authorized Mazda dealer" to enable), but I took the bait and shelled out the 80$ to get it turned on, only to find it didn't work. The reason? Apparently the remote-antenna is damaged. Estimated repair cost? Some $500.

Not to mention the ridiculous card-shaped key, the glitchy reception, and the ludicrous turn-the-knob ignition. If you're willing to put up with hassle over this, you're better off with something you choose yourself ...

Amen to that brotha! I have multiple issues w/ my advance keyless entry. I have 07 6sp GT and I'm down to using the real key now because my card just started acting up about 3 weeks ago. Worked one day, then the next day it wouldn't work. Now it works one time on the morning & never again the rest of the day. I changed the battery multiple times thinking the battery in the card was bad, then bought another new battery thinking maybe the new battery had sat in store too long and was dead, but that never made it work again. Also, I have KEY light in dash lit up RED, although my car still starts and drives since that happened 5 months ago. Also, the buttons on the door knobs outside the car have failed and will not work. Thank God there is an actual key in the advanced key card that I can still use. Only problem is, I have not figured out how to arm the car's alarm system without the actual advanced keyless card. Now I lock it, walk away & pray no one steels my car. Waste of a good alarm if you ask me. Dealer in Springfield, MO, (which is almost 3 hours from me) said it would cost me over $1000.00 to fix as I only had one advanced key when I bought the car used w/ 40,000 on it, He said I have to purchase another advanced key, program it, then replace the remote antennas that have gone bad in bumper & the driver door. I love this car, but I keep wondering what will go wrong next.
