I found the Bass rattle, but i need help
hey guys. I am having rattle issues. I just recently got 2 12" subs in my car, they sound awesome but i am having a terrible rattle. Its very loud and can be heard even with the volume being on 25. Sorry for the terrible quality picture. but ill try and be as clear as possible.
the car has huge amounts of dynamat, this is the only area on the whole car that rattles. If i apply pressure to the noted areas i can almost completely eliminate the rattle The panels marked with a (red) dot, are the loose panels. And the rattle (contact point) is marked in lime green. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...305fabceb4.jpg I was thinking maybe some weather stripping would fix my problem but i'm not sure. any help would be greatly appreciated. |
I've got a few rattles there myself. I was planning on using a few pieces of double sided tape.
|
anyone know of a solution???
anyone?? |
Same problem in the same area for me. Mine's not nearly THAT bad though.
Anything that prevents the offending panels from touching each other will cure the noise. Obviously. Be it cardboard, weather stripping, tape, etc. |
ill go take mine apart tomorrow and do some research and solution if someone wants to message me and remind me around noon?
|
ill be in school but ill try my best :D
|
double sided tape and some rubber strips will fix that bugger right up
|
^---ill give it a try later this week when i have time. this was as soon as i could get on but just givin getready a reminder.
|
after rollin around with the windows down i found that the rattle from that portion of the car was significantly less when the windows were rolled down. maybe it has to do with the air pressure or something but it's just something i noticed. but like i said, i'll go to lowes this week some time and get some weather stripping of some kind. maybe make a DIY.

Did you try taking off the plastic cover for the trunk light bulb?
|
Make sure all of your metal clips are installed on those panels. Check the white plastic pieces that the rear seats slip in to. Use dampening material to fill any gaps instead of 2 sided tape.

Happy hunting on the rattles, whenever I have a car come in the bay with an issue as extreme as the one you're having, I specifically isolate the offending clips with a wee piece of dynamat then actually mat the offending panel itself. |
thanks for the info arrexate!
k well I JUST DID THIS TODAY. zero rattle after i fixed it, I finally fully enjoyed my bass. all u need is 1 razor blade, a 3/4 inch cylindrical tube of foam weather stripping stuff. i found it at lowes for 3 bucks. K and its extremely simple... http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...305fabceb4.jpg the space right below the black stripping of your rear window is in contact with your speaker panels back there. if u stick your finger in between the window and the plastic covers, with some pressure, u will find that your finger squeezes into that gap. Basically just take your tubing, cut it to size...and run it from the left side of the window all the way to the right side. just stuff the foam rope in there, it will be tough but that is ok. that tightness eliminates the rattle. I will do a more comprehensive DIY later in time with pictures and stuff. i have a car show tomorrow so it wont happen then. but ill get it done in time... i hope this helps and its not too awkward sounding. |
I might do this, mine rattles there also.
|
note to self: the foam shrinks under summer heat. im gonna have to re-apply it , or add more. ill see what i can do.
