How to reset your odometer?
 

Does anyone know how to lower your millage or reset your odometer? is this possible at all?

Why? Thinking of selling your car??? :)

Probably just interested in going through the break-in again.

Not really, My car is less then a year old and I've put 38,000 Miles allready. I dont want my warranty to void after the 50,000.

I bet once I hit 50K shit will start breaking down.

um yeah dude. big time illegal. you know when you sell any car you have to sign a odometer reading paper stating the odometer is accurate.

Wouldn't they be able to tell the real mileage through the computer chip anyway?

I wouldn't even try man--especially since you kind of have left an e-paper trail by asking how to do it on this forum. Its illegal and you will probably get caught.

I watched ferris bueller the other day, so if you run the car in reverse you will be A.O.K.....

Does anyone seriously believe that an auto manufacturer would provide a warranty for a specific number of miles and not have a means to determine if the mileage had been altered?

just out of curiosity, can you reset the odometer on any car with electronic odometer?

My comment: after all, if I own a car, I should be able to do anything I want as long as it follows the law. If the odometer is reset to (haha) prevent the computer from messing with settings after 50.000 miles, say, and I sign the statement that the approximate mileage is 50,000 miles, how is that wrong? It is within my rights to treat the car as I want if I don't want warranty coverage.

Yes, it certainly is. And as long as you don't try to sell the car, you can disconnect the odometer if you wish to do so. However, since this would normally involve disconnecting the speedometer, as well, the argument would be that the car cannot be driven on the street without a functional speedometer.

yes, of course its very illegal, but theres a rerason cars are switching to the digital odometers, the older analog ones were easy to set back, they were on a rod which could easlily could be reversed by hand. the digital ones are...well...digital. there maaaay be a way to change it, but there are soo many safeguards put in place by the cpu and other smaller recorders in the car, it becomes literally impossible, plus trying it wouldnt be worth it at all so save a few bucks in warranty work. dont bother, just dont beat the piss out of your car, check the oil, let it warm up before you turn it off, and you should be fine for a while.
