I'm in the EXACT same situation. I even asked the seller to send me a different one. Now I have two remote, with new batteries, and neither one works. ANYONE?

I also have the 41848 KPU41805 4238A-12076

DoubleEdge Mar 9, 2010 05:41 PM

I'm wondering do this remotes have a memory that locks somehow to the original car? Do I have to reset the remote to kinda "forget" the previous programming and be ready for a new one?

I'm really out of ideas.

I purchased my son a 2004 RX8 in May, 2009. One remote didn't work and the other did. Now neither will unlock the doors or open the trunk. Changed the batteries, but still nothing. Do you have to reprogram it after a battery dies? Where is a reasonble place to reorder a new one?

wildriceboi Mar 31, 2010 08:32 PM

ok i had this problem, open the remote and look at the back next to the battery and theres a plus and minus well push those down and hit the panic button that worked for me its on one of the rx8 workbooks its really small ill try to find the scan for you

wildriceboi Mar 31, 2010 09:06 PM

go here http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdarx8/ its the workshop manual u have to set the battery by pressing the +B on the back of the remote

Myrac Apr 1, 2010 11:00 AM

Thanks for the information. I tried the instructions and neither remote works. I am going to find someone who can test it with a meter to see whether the battery is working.

FOUND A SOLUTION!! .....at least for me

I can't assure that this will fix your problems, but it fixed mine.
The whole story:

I have a 2005 RX-8 that came without a keyless remote, just one key.
Action: I went online and bought a used remote, it didn't work.
Problem: After checking with the dealership, apparently I had the wrong model.
Lesson: Check with your dealership with your VIN number

Action: I went online and bought a 2nd used remote, it didn't work either. I changed batteries, tried different things, never worked.
Problem: TO this day I have no f*cking clue why. The dealership did a range test and everything cleared fine. It is some other issue that no one seems to know the answer.
Lesson: Buy new. Used crap even when the signal tester say are good, are still crap. don't buy use. It is a hit or miss thing.

Action: Already frustrated, and down $90 in remotes and batteries, I decided to just buy a NEW remote online. Guess what?, IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER
Problem: NO F'ing CLUE!
Lesson: I shouldv'e bought a brand new RX-8. What the hell!

Action: I bought the swithblade key + keyless remote. IT WORKED!!!. Not only did it worked it is really awesome and it is really worth the cost. You will have to cut the key, program the key (at the dealership) unless you have two working keys, but I didn't so I had to pay.. But it is really worth it. give it a try.

Therefore if you have 2005 RX-8 and you are having the same problems buy:

FCC ID: KPU41788
IC : 4238A-41525
VISTEON 41525

If anyone out there needs a keyless remote, I bought one through original keyless, its model is Visteon 41805 FCC ID kpu41805 from what I ve researched it won't work on models that were manufactured after June 2004 which mine is, so if you need one I am trying to sell it, or if any advice as to why I can't program it on my car please please help....thanks all...

edi.ckv Aug 4, 2010 10:10 AM

can this be done on 09 model ?

outhid Aug 7, 2010 01:03 PM

The 05 don't use the old style remote, it come with spare key and only work with the built in remote with the key, whoever sold you seperate remote lied to you, the people at the dealer were not very helpful

S.Man.Rx8 Sep 8, 2010 11:52 AM

which switchblade key + keyless remote can I use for my 04 AT RX8?

same version?

This method kinda worked for me. Replaced the batteries, stood outside the car with my finger on the section of mainboard inside the fob that says "press here to replace battery" and just pressed buttons, eventually it started working. Repeated it with a second fob that had a new battery installed and it worked also.

Thanks

Guys and Gals,

When you post that a certain model remote worked (or didn't) for your car please include:
This will help validate results between areas.

                Thank you.

I have tried it all. checked to make sure the remote matched the old one and so on. Like most I get to the point where you are to press the button on the remote twice and nothing happens. Is the switchblade key type remote the sure fire way to get the problem solved. I am out the price of a new remote right now and it got me no where. There must be something here that is being missed in general.

Bumping an old thread just to convey a thought. Is it possible that the receiving unit in the car itself has gone bad? I've read a ton of threads on reprogramming these remotes but I've not heard anyone say that the car itself was the problem.

I have the two original remotes to my '04. When they started to work a little slower I bought new batteries for them. That worked for a short while. Now, with two new batteries in the remotes, nothing works. So, either the remote itself has stopped sending a signal, or the cars receiving device has gone bad. But so far I've found nothing on replacing the cars receiving unit, if that can even be done.

                Ideas?

Recently had gone through similar experiences as those in this forum. Long story short I purchased a new transponder/fob from an online source on Amazon and found that although what they sent me was a working unit, it would not pair with my 2004 RX8. Trying to isolate the source of the problem, I also asked myself to isolate the vehicle pairing management system as the problem.

From speaking with mazda techs, they verified my procedure to pair transponder was correct and stated that if you can get the doors responding (lock and unclock) then the car would not be the problem.

For my situation, in the end: the company I was purchasing the transponder/fob from were sending me non defective units but would fail to pair with my vehicle (reasons unkonwn, tried two transponders from them) great prices but took time out of my work week.

While at the Mazda dealership, on a whim I purchased a transponder from them, paired it myself while in the service garage, and viola. IT worked immediately.

Also asked them about pairing an 05 switchblade key with an 04 and they say its definitely possible, but in their experience it's not 100% certain. Essentially it comes down to the key being able to talk to the car (built in circuitry)

                Programming RX8 FOB

Hi. I wanted to share my experience getting my RX-8 Key Fob programmed with the group.

Basically I added a section called "***** If you press 'unlock twice' and the car does not respond *****" within the standard programming instructions you see all over the interweb.

                program rx8 keyless remote
                -------------------------------------------------------------
                Programming Instructions

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the driver’s door using the power door lock
                switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do
this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off)
                position.

Step 5: Close and open the driver’s door 3 times. Leave door open after
                this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking
                and unlocking the car doors.

***** If you press 'unlock twice' and the car does not respond *****

a.) Ensure the battery in the fob is working.
b.) Ensure you are using the correct version.

                pre 7/04 RX-8:
                -Visteon Model: 41848
                -FCC ID: KPU 41805
                post 7/04 RX-8:
                -Visteon Model: 41805
                -FCC ID: KPU 41805

c.) I have a pre 7/04 RX-8 and even with the proper Visteon model and FCC ID the second FOB I purchased on EBAY did not work. I am not sure why.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a
final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks.

I have original remotes that came with my 2004 rx8. They both worked fine. The battery died in one and I bought new batteries for both. Replaced both and neither have ever worked again. I have tried everything on these threads with no luck. I highly doubt my transponder went out at the same time I switched the batteries. The dealer acted like no one had ever had this problem before me. Of course he wanted $440 to fix it for me. WHATEVER.

                jguy99 Aug 31, 2013 10:41 PM

OK... I just got the remote the other day Visteon Model 41848
                FCC ID: kpu41805-12076

I got in the car...wasn't even trying to program this thing... all of the sudden the alarm goes off !! Can't stop it no how. [I] try taking the key out- relocking the door..ect...nothing.Out of desperation I try the steps posted above....

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

This stops the alrm from going off..however the hazard lights are going and cannlt be controleed at all. I try taking the key opiut..locking unlocking the doors.... nothing. I get desperate drive to the daeler...closed for long weekend. Get home...the hazard lights finally stop but when I lock the catrr the lights do not flash like it is supposed to when arming the alarm manually by locking with jey.... few hours later that function returns...WTF ?? I ttook the battery out of the remote until I can get some idea what the heck is going off....and yes the battery is good..i had it checked with a tester todayt....I wanna try it again but am afraid this thing is going to decide I'm the thief and not start anymore and I'll be towing it to the dealer for those money grubbers to take my $100 to push a few buttons... can anybody provide CLEAR instructions. The scan at the top seems to be the best but I can't read it even when zoomed. When I try to lock the drivers door with the door open it doesn't lock it locks and unlocks quickly ... will not stay in locked position.I know this isn't rocket science I did it with my 2005 Altima SER without any of these problems...please folks help me out.... much appreciated
