Before posting questions such as this, it's a good idea to do a search and thereby avoid the flames.

I got two remote on ebay as well and I can't program the 2004 RX8. When following the instructions, I got everything until I get to the step when I push the new transmitter twice (then nothing happens). Did it over and over again. The discreptency that I noticed between my original remote was the following:

My original remote:
Visteon Model: 41848
FCC ID: KPU41805
IC: 4238A-12076
TW: "3 ASIAN CHARACTERS" 91LP0424

Ebay remote:
Visteon Model: 41805
FCC ID: KPU41805
CANADA: 4238A 12076

The car is manufactured in Oct of 2003 and billed as a 2004. I swapped batteries from both remote and the original one always worked. When I press the remote twice during programming I just get no response from the car. Any leads? Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem, and eventually found a procedure that worked for me. Try the following, referring to the shop manual page attached.

Make sure your new remote is attached to your key ring and do not remove the key and remote from the ignition until all programming steps are completed.

Run through the first 4 "boxes" exactly as stated in the instructions. (Note the 24 second requirement for the second two "boxes".)

For box #5 which starts: "Verify that door lock actuators...", reach over to the door (which remains open) and manually work the lock on and off one time. (May not be necessary, but it worked for me.)

For the next box, the instruction should read (my change in bold type): Push any button twice on the remote transmitter you are programming. (Don't forget, the remote is attached to the key ring and the key is still in the ignition.)

Continue with the remaining steps and the remote should work. Good luck!

Remote Problems

my remote has recently died, so I changed the battery only to find the remote didn't work. So I've managed follow every step until it says 'push any button twice on the remote', when I do this nothing happens. Now I have a 53 r3 model, now i'm wondering if this has anything to do with it.

Here's how I did it last night

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Make sure you're going to full off/lock and not just the off position when you turn the key. As previously stated the door locks will cycle when the receiver is ready to receive the new remote signal.

For what model/year are these steps good for? I have a 2006 RX8, tried the steps but nothing seems to happen. Is there another DIY solution? I am using the OEM keyless remotes (credit card style).

Answer for rx8jamaica

Thats what i was gonna tell you that when I got the Visteon Model 41805 it did not work and I sent it back to the people who sold it to me on ebay. They exchanged it for the Visteon Model 41848 at no charge. It programmed perfectly when i got it. Paid less than 20 bucks for it.
