How are Boston Acoustic speakers?

How do they compare in terms of sound quality vs.

* Infinity
* Polk
* (insert brand you like)
?

Boston Pro components are my favorite, great mid bass and smooth highs. Base plates are hefty and durable.

I find Infinity(s) to be too bright and light in the highs. Too airy and irritating to listen to for too long. Sound okay paired with lots of bass but lack the musical warmth of Bostons.

Polk - never bought, tried, or bothered listening too well to. Not in the same class IMO, they offer only a few high end products.

Boston Pro = Boston Acoustic?

Boston Acoustics makes a line of products called PRO.
Like most manufacturers they offer many different lines according to price, quality, and usage. They also make a Rally series for entry level users - they sound okay too but for really great sounding component speakers I'd recommend the Pros.

Oh and this was assuming that you were talking about components and not subs. I'm not really a fan of Boston subs, although if you like R&B they are great in the 12'' variety...

I think you should be a little more specific. Everything form the power you plan on running, the music you listen to, and most importantly, your budget.

Okay, that's a good pt. I'd like to just be replacing my components. Just upgrading the speakers. I don't know how necessary an amp is going to be - if the impedance and sensitivity of the replacement speakers are about the same as the stocks, then that should be just fine I assume.

I listen to all sorts of music, lately i've been listening to a lot of Death Cab. I don't need or want crazy bass that a 12" sub would give me, though sometimes I do get in the mood for a good bass massage. My musical tastes are too varied for me to really pin it down on that.

I had boston Pro's in my honda before I got my 8. I LOVED THEM. I miss them dearly. If I didnt travel so much and spent more time in my car, I wouldn't hesitate to get another pair of Boston's again. I would recommend an external amp for them though. They just really shine with a better amp than the stock HU. FYI: I am a huge audio snob, so I am very picky about my audio components if that makes you feel any better

I really like their stuff.
In fact, I liked it to the point that my old Civic SiR was a Boston Acoustics demo car on the local show circuit for a couple of years.
I had the Pro Series 6.5^3 3-way set in the doors and a pair of 12"s in a stupidly small box... sounded phenomenal... absolutely loved it, and it all worked flawlessly and sounded good until I pulled it out in 2002. (Pulled it out because I got tired of hauling the weight around, and always worrying about theft and I was doing shows anymore.) Actually, all of the gear is still in my basement now that I think of it.

I replaced the Pro series stuff with just some Rally series stuff in the stock locations, and it actually sounded pretty good for the price. Ran it happily for another year before I traded the Civic for my RX-8.

Boston get a thumbs up from me for product quality and sound quality.

I have 6.5.3 in the front, Z6 in the back, and 2 12s in the trunk. Nuff said.
