rx8guy86 05-27-2007 07:46 PM

Thats freakin awesome! DIY?

lurch519 05-27-2007 08:56 PM

Two reasons why there wont be a DIY any time soon. First, the size of the LED's involved are tiny. Here's a pic of a bunch of the ones removed to do the convesion, with one laying on top of a nickle, just to give an idea of size. Second, I am considering offering this as a service, so I dont want to shoot myself in the foot. If i go ahead with this, I will let everyone know.

Looking good. Few questions, what about the needles? They don't seem to be lit up at all. What's day/night difference with these (lights off/lights on)? White/blue, blue/red, blue/blue?

lurch519 05-27-2007 10:11 PM

i did blue behind the needles, but with the red stripe on the needles themselves, its not super bright. i keep my lights on all the time, and dont use the red illumination, but visibility during the day time is fine with the blue

Looks nice!

Ross_Dawg 02-16-2009 04:09 PM

Any better pics?

NightmareX 02-16-2009 04:14 PM

Wow! Now thats sweet.

Quinchu 02-16-2009 05:18 PM

With the needles you can remove the amber on them with just a thing of acetone and a cotton swab. Then they can shine ;)

illjordanz 02-16-2009 05:38 PM

looks great but whats up with the needles still looks awsome

lurch519 02-26-2009 06:25 AM

just for those that are interested in doing this, it is not a DIY to be taken lightly. it is a very lenghty job, requires attention to detail, a very steady hand, mad soldering skills and you should also have a specialized soldering iron to remove the original LEDs. one mistake and you can damage or ruin your guage cluster.

rodjonathan 07-12-2009 08:09 PM

looks good man juss saw a link while checking some other thread out

cody6766 07-13-2009 12:37 AM

I love the look, but would hate to drive it at night. I hate blue/green/white gauges when I'm out on the dark roads. I have to have my red and have it down low.

still though...I love to look at it in your car! Knowing what you went through for that solder job is almost as impressive as the look of the cluster.
