help:want a smidge more bass in my car
 

i'm not a stereo guru here, but i have the GT pkg with the bose 9 speaker system.

its nice and all... but the only dissatisfaction i have is the conservative amount of bass the stock system has. even though the brochure claims it to have something like 300 watts. WTF?

well... my goals are to keep all stock speakers and system and run the most weight efficient way to have a stronger system. any help and tricks would be appreciated. and any tricks where doing so and dropping a couple of pounds would definitely gain my interest.

so far the only thing i have available is a spare sony amplifier my friend gave me before going back to japan. its rather small...but i think its all i need as its intention is not to be a full time blvd cruiser. just need a bit more uummph.

how many channels, i dunno. how many watts, i dunno. whats the model ... i dunno. but, i can find out once i dig it up out of the moving boxes.

please help. i really want to make use of my friend's present and put it to good use. and keep in mind, i want modest enjoyable boost in bass...not looking to blow up speakers.

that sony amplifier is metallic purple iirc. and behind that glass case it has many adjustments to tune the frequency etc...

i'm really not that great when it comes to stereos... the only time i've ran a sub and amp was way back in college when most kids just cared about back breaking amounts of bass. thats when i had a kenwood 300watts continuance amp with 10inch JL w6? sub... the big magnet one, you know?

your lack of responses may be due to your inability to search.

Throw a 10" sub in there with a line output converter connected to the rear speaker channels.

Should be more then enough oomph for you.

Lack of responses is probably because you didn't even wait a day before bumping your thread. twice.

If you're thinking of running that amp to the Bose speakers, stop now. If you're thinking of replacing the Bose speakers with aftermarket to get more bass, stop now. If you're willing to run power wire from the battery, use an aftermarket amp, and buy a decent sub.... then we can talk.

^^Good Advice. Other than that if you don't want a sub/box/amp combo then you might want something thats already powered. Possible an Infinity Basslink, MTX Thunderlink, or an Alpine PLT5. Another thing is there is no way to get what you wan't without adding weight to your car. I definitely suggest getting a good subwoofer/amp/box but look into those things I said to see if they fit what you would want.

A cheap 50W bazooka tube weighs practically nothing and costs like $99. It'll add just a touch more bump. The infinity basslink and MTX offering both weigh a lot more than even the 200W bazooka.

Yeah, I forgot about the bazooka tubes. I've never used any of the bazooka stuff though. Its probably another great option for someone who doesn't want to add alot of weight. I've heard that they have good bass too. All of the "Pre-Packaged" subs seem to get good reviews as well. I'm not a professional though, audio is just a hobby of mine, but I would rather have a nice 8 or 10 in a properly sized box rather than any of those options. I'm not knocking on anyone with the box/sub/amp alternatives, its just not for me.

My dad has a 100W tube in his Audi S4. It's too much for him. (59 years old) But he wanted more bass..... I gave him more bass! LOL!

haha, nice:lol2:. I haven't heard a bazooka tube in a few years but it sounded good with my friends stock system. I recently heard a basslink and it sounded pretty nice as well. I think that the powered sub enclosures would be good if added to a stock system for a little more bass and is probably what TrochoidMagic is looking for. But if you replaced the rest of the system with nice quality mids/highs then i don't think that they would be enough. Another good thing about the bazooka and others though, is that it is very easily removed if you want to go get some track time:)

So how do I connect the Bazooka?
It's a Jensen. no power connection.
Has two black and two red inputs.
So connect them to the rear speakers?
No LOC?

Just use the high-level inputs - speaker level wires in the back, no worries about screwing around with the Bose.....

Infinit Basslink is a something you might want to look into. Much better product than the Bazooka tube in my opinion. Get the 200w model with the remote. I had mine installed at the local Best Buy, so I can't help with install instructions.

I agree however, it's heavier and more expensive. (for a guy who cares about every ounce, as per sig) Circuit City has a bazooka tube for 99 bucks and an amp kit for like 35.

Well I traded an old pair of 6x9s for the Jensen Bazooka so no money spent.
I don't really want to spend any more monies, I want to use what I have. So forget about any more purchases. No 200watt stuff, no remote, etc. Unless you are willing to send/give it to me free! I thought not!!

Oh I also have a "few" amps somewhere in the garage. All kinds bought over the years.
All I want to connect is the bazooka ( in the trunk)
so connect to which wires?

Those that did the actual installing them selfs, those ppl know what to connect to what.

firebird, so for the bazooka, is it a very straight forward install? like what juice talk about, that is the route i'd like to take. maybe just a bazooka tube...what do they weigh?

but anyway, i haven't looked at the stock configuration nor will i see the bigger picture even if i do due to this not being my field of talent. but can the bazooka tube plug right in to the stock speaker wires or spliced... or would it have to be some work to the amp instead?

There's no such thing a "smidge more bass" thats like eating one pringles, or having just one bear or slice of pizza for that matter. Like going to the strip club and just having one lap dance, one STD or possibly getting a little pregnant.

I'd suggest you go for a LOT more bass that the way men do it!!!!

Straight forward for you? Or straight forward for me?:lol2: It's pretty much the same as with any other amp sub. Just in a smaller, lighter package. You will be require to run a small power wire from the battery, through the fire wall and into the trunk. (As with any amp) Circuit City has cheap 8 and 10 gauge wiring kits for like $30-$35. Or Wal-Mart even. You're not adding anything huge, so just about any kit will be fine. We have walk-throughs in the stickied threads on how to do it.

The 8" 100W tube weighs 14lbs and the 10" 100W tube weighs 24lbs. The 8" 200W tube weighs 20lbs and the 10" 200W tube weighs 25lbs.

EDIT: Oh and as for tapping into the rear speaker wires, I'm not sure. I've installed 10-15 of these and used a line output converter every time. I will note, however, that the tubes DO come with connection for high-level inputs (speaker leads). So it IS possible to just splice it in.... donno what kind of results you would get though. Also, I tapped into the wires just BEFORE the Bose amp. Very easy and great results. However, I have read of people on here tapping after the amp with good results as well. So.... just telling you what I know.:)

find a nice 10 inch sub and get that enclosure that fits custom into the side of the trunk. ( if someone has a link, that would be awesome) that would give you clean bass and a nice clean install.
