help -- speakers shut off
 

got my '04 rx8 back in august and i put in the PIE aux-in mod in september and everything has been working great until now....

i come back from vacation ready to go for a drive and i turned on my car and after three seconds the audio cuts off... LCD screen is still on and volume controls are responsive... there is just no sound.

if the radio is on when the car starts then it will play for a few seconds before shutting down and if the radio is off for those few seconds the speakers will already be silent when the unit is turned on...

if anyone knows something about this problem or can point me to a previous post it'd be much appreciated

do you have the Bose?

yes i have the bose and the 6 cd changer

i grudgingly went to the dealership today and made a service appointment for monday...

hopefully ill be able to figure it out or fix it before then


i should also clarify that the problem still occurs even if i just put on the electrical system and dont start the car

hmm, that's weird! the stereo is stock other then the PIE?

Sounds like a loose connection.

yeah, maybe when you took the headunit out something came looose?

yes my suspicion is that it is a loose connection but what really makes me wonder is why the failure is so consistent... with a loose connection id expect the speakers to come in an out as the car moved around but these speakers shut off after the same amount of time every single time the radio is turned on and they dont turn on again...

yes aside from the PIE the system is stock

if i have time tomorrow i will take it apart and see if i cant find a loose connection but i will keep this up to date

it sounds like its more of a power problem.. Like it only gets enough power for the first 3 seconds and that's it..

I had the same exact issue with my Bose head unit. They ended up replacing it under warranty.

I'm having the same exact issue, and I also have a stock system except I have the PIE input as well. I have a feeling that the PIE unit is crapping out somehow.

I saw one or two other threads that didnt focus on this, but they had also installed the PIE unit as an aux-in method. Something's fishy....

If it were just a loose connection, why would pulling/replacing the ACC or AUDIO fuse temporarily make the sound come back? Just sitting in the garage, not jiggling any "loose" connections. Its as though a relay or capacitor or something is behaving strangely.
