help picking a sub for 500/1 jl audio amp
 

so i blew my 10w6v2 with my 500/1 jl amp...

im looking to do a little reconstructing and im looking for some nice boom to use with this amp but i wanna keep it light and small as possible.. Im currently looking at the JL audio 8w7 and the digital design dd1508... anyone have any other recommendations i should look at?

can someone confirm this for me?... i heard this somewhere and idk if it is true... the smaller the subs the more crisp and accurate the bass hits... the larger the deeper boom and is more constant?

Enclosure design will dictate sound quality and frequency response more so than subwoofer diameter. Why not another 10W6v2 and concentrate more on the box?

it is an idea but i was thinking if i have to redo it might as well try for smallest possible and keep weight to a minimal

If you're looking to keep weight down, I suggest a fiberglass box. A whole hell of a lot easier to drop 20lbs off the box, rather than 20 lbs from switching sub model/size.

The 8W7 is an outstanding subwoofer, but costly and weighs in at a beastly 17lbs. Couple others off the top of my head that will handle 500WRMS in a sealed box would be the 8" Rockford P3 and the 8" Kicker L7.

How about a 4080 box? No work for you and squeeze in a 10" with similar weight to that 8W7. Just some ideas to kick around...

ive actually made replica fg boxes similar to 4080's design.. im actually planning on putting this in a different car as well.. thanks for the input..

I have a 500/1 in my RX8.
I've had both a 12w6v2 (previously), and now have a 8w7.
I really liked the 12w6v2, but I love the 8w7 paired with the 500/1 in this vehicle. The bass is very musical and I am very surprised how deep and punchy the bass is from the 8w7. I have the 8w7 mounted in a specially made Zenclosure box - modified to approx 0.875cu ft.
BTW - I have Dynaudio MKII in front running on my JL Audio 300/2.
