Headliner Replacement
I have a pop that exploded in my car and caked my roof with orange dots. Anyone know how to replace the headliner? Do I need to buy everything new or could i just recarpet the board that is already there? Thanks for your help.

Why don't you just clean it? Or do you hate the headliner that much?

shout wipes. no im not kidding. some ones cute 4 year old god daughter did that ... I wanted to kill her until she said mommy uses shout wipes. i tried it ... it works... thank you 4 dollar box of shout wipes.

Yea...I also use a product called Goop for the really hard stains. Removes oil from rags and everything.

LoL he said Pop! :lol2:
Sorry I live in Nashville, I've only heard it called pop less than 5 times my entire life. |
mmmk
I thank you all for the reply and yes those of us from MN use the word Pop as apposed to soda, however I dont think we understand the gravity of the stains I am dealing with here.
I have orange friggen everywhere plus there are a couple of what look to be burn marks which I will not point fingers but I can tell it wasnt from me. So back to the headliner ideas keep them coming. Thanks again all |
Up to you d00d. The headliner shouldn't be to bad to do on your own I guess. Although you probably have to pull most of the interior trim just to get it out. There should probably be something in the tech manual on it I would assume. Basically the fabric is glue'd to a backing after being pulled tight. Not a repair I would do on my own though. Just thinking about it makes me shudder.

Just have it professionally cleaned. Much better than screwin up the insides. Less hassel, comparable price and will look good as new.

There are shops that specialize in installing new convertible tops and auto upholstery. It doesn't cost anything to see what they suggest—cleaning or replacement. And if you do opt for replacement, I'd let them do it, unless you really know what you're doing.

to remove the headliner, you need to remove the rear seats, the upper speaker area, a pillars, upper console, and visors.
Pain in the ass, probably no less than 2 hours of work to take it off, well... to take it off without damaging it. the headliner isnt like other cars, its sort of one piece and one piece only, not fabric over another surface. so you got to replace the whole thing and not just re upholster it. |
My headliner is fabric and if you have to take it out like that then it has to be attached to something. If you can't get the glue to let go on the current headliner you can always cover it and just glue to what is there now. But either way it would not be a fun job to try.

I donno if our headliner if like all other cars (fabic over metal) but if it is.... it's not worth your time to attempt yourself. I paid like 60 bucks for my last vehicle to have done. Looked perfect and didn't waste any of my time. (which is priceless these days)

ok I like that. Can you have them provide some directions on how they did that? Did they cut it off? I just bought a tub of oxiclean and some shout wipes. So I am going to try the above method first. If that fails I would like to know how to remove. It thanks for the help.

you have to remove everything that's holding up the headliner. a-pillar, back seat pieces, c-pillar, side trim, maplight, domelight, visors, handles, etc. it's simple after that. our car is pretty easy for taking out the headliner cuz of our suicide doors.
