factory radio issue

ok so i have researched ALOT but could not really come up with a definitive answer.
So my sons 04 rx8 base model radio slash CD player stopped working.[no power] alomg with that the information screen[temp, time, vent mode etc] is no longer lighting up. The controls work for air, heat, fan all work. I checked the footwell fuse box no blown fuse. I am ready to remove the radio and check faceplate connections and plug connection but, was wondering is it possible that the unit shot craps? Looking for advise or answers from anyone that may be in the know about this exact symptom? Thinking should I buy another factory radio from member sales ahead of time? does the info center get its power supply thru the radio?
perplexed
thanks for any input........ Steve

I know you checked the driver footwell fuses but check them and the engine bay fuses again. I'm no expert, but if both units have gone completely black at the same time, it seems like a fuse or power issue. It's pretty rare that both units would completely fail at the same time.

If there is a connection problem on the back of the faceplate, the information screen won't light up. I'd check those definitely. My screen went dark when I accidentally bent two tabs on the faceplate which made the connectors not sit right in it.

radio

thanks for the replies,
I did check engine bay fuses no luck there, also ref face plate would that cause radio to not power as well, Son was jamming along and radio went out as well as display center.seems as display center derives power thru the radio in some way? As a side note watched the radio removal DYI and it was spot on however I got to the point of removing the back screw and could not locate. Things are tight back there, gonna give it another try this weekend. The kids bumming out with no tunes to roll with.LOL
