i've been told the censor. is defective and does not work properly.. but if you get someone to put in a new alarm just make sure they can have your car fixed, say they happen to short the electronics. or something in that nature...

the mazda shock sensor works fine - the old one (when the RX-8 first hit the market was defective). worth the $50 it costs!

i thought about aftermarket alarms - but remember they have to take some of your interior parts out to install it - may lead to rattles. that's what i was worried about.

I had a Viper 791 vx put in a few months back. It works fine, most of it will depend on who's doing the installation. I just got tired of the Mazda transponder not working from farther then 3 feet from the car. Plus I need auto-start winter in PA is a bitch, not to mention it's nice to be 200 feet from the car and the AC's already on and cooling it down.

depends on if you are just looking for security or additional options. if you are just worried about security, stay with the stock alarm and add the shock sensor. if you want additional features, such as remote start, windows control as well as sunroof control, then go with the aftermarket solutions. the 791vx that slaotkain mentions is one of viper's top of the line models, which has a 2 way transmitter with a range of something like 1000+ feet, lcd display so you can see at a glance what is going on with your alarm, remote start (not reccomended for the mt but it is posible, i am going to be doing it in my car, but you probably wont find a reputable shop to install one on the mt, mine included), plus i am going to be adding windows control so i can vent or roll them down from the transmitter, as well as a motion sensor so if my windows are down and someone reaches in the car it will roll them up. expensive alarm, and even if you are capable of installing one yourself, you will not find a viper dealer to sell you one over the counter.

having the remote start is very convienent, as you can have the heat going or ac going b4 you get in, plus with needing to let the motor warm up a little b4 beating on it, you can start it and let it run for 5 minutes b4 you leave. any more advice you need on alarms or car stereo, let me know and i will try my best to help you out.

The factory sensor works great, well worth the money.

I almost bought this sensor myself.. but then had to ask myself WHY?

The car already has an alarm if the doors are opened, and the ignition cut-off will (or should i say SHOULD) deter your common thief.

What will the sensor get you? I work in Downtown miami, and EVERY DAY when I come to work, at least 1 car in the parking lot has it's alarm going off... No one notices nor bothers...

So I ask myself.. what's the point of it making a noise when someone breaks the window, bumps the car, or of course has thier stereo Way too loud next to my RX8.

Is there some beneifit I'm not thinking about? $50 is pretty cheap, but it almost seems like I'd be paying for a hassle I didn't need.

Now , if the sensor could send a text message to my cell phone or whatnot.. THAT'D be pretty cool, as I definatly would run outside and see who hit me.
