Dvd - Install

:banghead:
Alright, I didnt want to be that guy and hopefully I am not but here goes.

How the hell do you get movies to work with navigation? I searched up and down these forums for just the word Dvd or movies. Nothing.

I understand that it is a Dvd-Rom factory unit by Panasonic. I have found that post. Now have we found a way to just replace that unit and still have the maps work.

I would think that you would simply need a new dvd drive with some tv outs. I know its probably out there. So can people post the DIY thread on here if it exists.

Again I am sorry for my stupidity in this matter.

You'll need another DVD drive to play the movies since the nav drive won't do that, but if you have the new video source, you can use this.

Here is the DIY thread for the more expensive version... I suppose you can adapt it to the simpler one too.

you have go to be kidding me. That is the only option that is out there. Come on.

There isnt just a dvd drive with some video outs attached to it. There has to be.

Theres plenty of DVD drives with video outs...problem is geting that video onto the nav screen. So far the best solution is aveletronics unit to hack into the navigation and buying a separate dvd player. Your looking around $550 for the complete install including a adapter to put quality audio through the factory system. Theres several installs throughout the site...i even did one.

Also you cant replace the drive with another dvd drive and expect the navigation to work. The factory drive i believe is the main part of the navigation system. Its really a small price to pay to get dvd's our your screen...or do a car pc and eliminate the navigation all together. I have no use for all that pc car in my car because i rarely use it. When i do and for long trips its ncie to keep company entertained.

Anyways this was my project...

All was needed is a dvd player, aveletronic lite box, pie adapter and some wires. Also a little bit of ingenuity ;)

Has anybody noticed any particular quirks with either the budget or the expensive versions of these systems?

I'm new to car electronics so I'm definitely going to let a pro install but was just wondering what peoples experiences were like actually using this thing.

Also, the inputs are switched via a toggle/switch not a remote right? Last thing I need are more things lying around the car.
