Door Panel Lights
Has anyone changed these lights? I just bought blue and red bulbs but not sure which ones I like better. The dash lights show blue but the majority of the lights in the car are red. Any thoughts or suggestions? I will probably go with red.

I changed mine to red... dome light too, looks great!
see here
They actually look much more true red than the pic shows, and they look really nice with the footwell lights I installed this weekend. I'll try to get a couple pics that better show the whole interior with the red lights at night, and add them to the directory.

Personally, I'd go with the blue for a couple of reasons. First, the lights are there on the door to light your way as you step out, and red bulbs will make it harder to see the ground. Secondly, the lights are there as a safety feature when you open your door while parked on a street - they give an indication to traffic driving by parallel to you that your door is open. Red bulbs will not provide as good a visual warning to traffic as blue or white.
Finally, I'd also go with blue because it matches the way-cool blue gauge lights, which come on when you open the door to a non-running car... just like the door lights do. The red would be good if they stayed on all the time.
One question for you though: where did you get the colored bulbs? I think I'll do my door lights too. :-)

Today I replaced the white bulbs w/ red ones on the doors, and the rear top courtesy light. But one big problem occured. On the drivers side all went well.. I removed the plastic covering. Pulled out the bulb as per manual and inserted the colored red bulb.. On the passenger side things went south.. I removed the plastic covering, pulled out the bulb, but when I attempted to push in the new one w/ minimal pressure -- the bulb and the attachment went inside the door!! I tried for over an hour to get the sucker out.. It is one of those things that you get close--but can't pull it out. I finally had to give up thinking I might damage something.. I tried to remove the panel to get inside, but it did not move.. I did not want to break anything, since I do not have a picture how to remove the outer door panel so I can "push in the socket/bulb from behind. (The red looks great to go w/ my newly added red footwell lights) Time to hit the service dept. for a little help..What a bummer!

I put in blue bulbs all around the car. Definitely a bit dimmer but much more light than the red. I did the doors, dome, map lights, trunk light, license plate light, and the running lights closest to the Mazda emblem on the front of the car. I love it. I got my bulbs at Pep Bpys for $2.99 per pack of 2. Highly recomended

The dealer fixed my little problem w/ the left door light. N/C. The red looks great. I left the map lights in white just in case I do have to read something, but turned them to off -- so when you open the doors, they do not automatically come on. I thought about the blues, but since my panel lights were red, the footwell lights added were red, I wanted to keep the theme.. I wish I could get the dealer added red footwell lights to stay on longer than the time they do. Anyone know how this can be done?

Take the timer that they came with out of the circuit, and wire them directly into another light that comes on when you open the door then fades out in 15 seconds, such as the door lights. Or, wire them directly into power and a switch.
