Don't think anyone has thought about this yet. . but cool idea ... wiring corners ...

I was thinking about wiring the clear corner lights to become turn signal lights , anyone do this yet ? I was wondering how hard it could be to do this ,because to me ... it just seems stupid to have running lights on the 2 sides ...

Air Force RX8 08-21-2004 08:51 PM

Interesting idea...I have not heard of anyone doing this yet, but will keep an eye on the thread....

truemagellen 08-21-2004 09:39 PM

I think they are cool as running lights...here in Minnesota we can have white or amber so I put in bright white 6 bulb LEDs for the corners and the same bright white LEDs for the 'running lights/dusk lights/inner lights/whatever' looks menacing and the white matches the HID (close)

vt_hokie2008 08-21-2004 10:05 PM

Here is how people have done it over at mazda6tech which should be just as simple for the rx8. http://forum.mazda6tech.com/viewtopic.php?t=489

hope this helps.

truemagellen 08-21-2004 10:11 PM

I just looked up the statutes online regarding a white turn signal and here in minnesota, low and behold you can have white or amber turn signals as well...but only in the front of the car...in the back the turn signals must be amber

might be a cool install...but then that means changing out the turn signals to white...too much work and too much money

I wish you the best of luck though

Been thinking about this, and I think the easiest way to do it would be to splice into the existing turn signal wires on either side, and run these splices to white or amber LEDs installed in the clear corners.

It's a side marker turn signal! (?)

It occurred to me that maybe this is a feature of the Japanese 8? Maybe that's why the clear corner has that reflector directing light toward the side/rear of the car. It's used as a side marker turn signal (like BMWs or other a Mazda 3).

Since traffic is so congested in Japan an adjacent driver may be situated to NOT see a rear turn signal, but they could see a side marker signal...

Make sense? Can anyone confirm if the Japanese 8 corners blink when signaling?

truemagellen 08-02-2005 02:49 PM

who cares...look much cooler as signal lights imho :)

moRotorMotor 08-02-2005 03:10 PM

I thought the clear corners blinked all along with the turn signal...God! I am dense!

slllygrl10 08-02-2005 04:45 PM

I think someone had mentioned this before.

LucasET 08-02-2005 04:55 PM

I would imagine this could be done just like the foglight mod. Like Omicron said, you'd just have to find what wires belong to the turn signals, and splice into them. Yes, it would require cutting a wire or two (*gasp!!!*), but it would be easy once you found the correct wires.
Anyone want to post a DIY????

Hey moderators: Want to move this to the appropriate category?

BigOLundh 08-08-2005 03:39 PM

People have been dong this since the dawn of time...
I don't know if there is a DIY for the 8 yet.

Essentially your just rewiring your sidemarkers into your turn signals. If you find a DIY for any honda or other car... its all pretty much the same.

Hi,

just moved back to Finland, Europe and took my 8 with me... here the side marker lights have to be changed to turn signals. Also there have to be fog ligth(s) mounted to the rear bumper. With these changes the US model is street legal also here :)

rotor_man 06-11-2006 05:08 AM

It is a function of JDM 8's, I presumed that the U.S. model also l flashed as part of the indicator "turn signal".

So I don't get it they changed to amber corners from the original clear and then it doesn't flash. So in stock form the car has amber running lights? No wonder cear corners sell like hot cakes!!!

I pressumed it was U.S. law to have amber turn signals, i guess it's something to do with running lights.

Anyway in answer to the question. The NZ and Aussie and Japanese work as indicators so you could try find a wiring diagram :)

For safety reasons, I don't recommend removing the running light function from your marker lights. To do it properly, you would either have to add a bulb/led or change the bulb/led style to dual filament. I'm sure there are LEDs that would perform this function, but you will still have to change the socket or mount.

At the risk of being flamed again for owning a Harley, I will tell you what is very common in the Custom Bike World. You could probably use this. It works on a motorcycle, don't know why it wouldn't work on an 8. (I would find out before ordering, but I am assuming you don't have to hook up the brake light function.

If there was enough interest, I bet OverLOAD could come up w/ one very easily!!

Look in the DIY forum what I did.

If you are using incandescent bulbs in your corner markers, then there is no need to add additional bulbs for this to work. You splice the positive wire from the front turn signal into the ground of the corner light. When your lights are off and you signal, the corner will flash along with the front turn signal. If your lights are on it will flash oposite the front signal. This will not work with LEDs since they only work one way. Here's a link where I got this info:

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...rkerflash.html

I have not tried this yet because I'm running LEDs in my clear corners, although I have entertained the the thought of using them only as signal lights and have no corner markers. This is how they work in all markets except the US, so it can't be that dangerous. I do think that from a safety perspective, having a signal light that could be seen by cars flanking you is more important than a simple corner marker at least in urban areas with multilane roads and freeways.

And don't forget to cut the side marker ground wire or you will blow the fuse as soon as you turn the turn signal on. :)

Tamas 07-25-2006 11:43 PM

OK, if someone already did this for the 8, please write a DIY.

I'd like to have it wired to work as corner markers (like stock) but switch to flashing mode when the turn signal is on... :)

Wow, where the hell have you guys been!? It's been in the DIY section for *years*
