in dash two din question?

just wondering, would it be possible to tkae out the stock dash piece, bondo all the holes that u dont need including the center part, then cut a hole to fit a two din dvd player in?

You will lose full functionality with your HVAC system.

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:10 AM

wats the hvac system?

Spinning Sushi 06-19-2008 03:10 AM

Climate control stuff. (AC, Heat, etc.)

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:10 AM

do u mean the air conditioning controls? i was thinking if i left those holes, but just bondo all the buttons related to the cd player

Spinning Sushi 06-19-2008 03:11 AM

It'll be alot easier for you if you buy this: http://corksport.com/store/item/2jpb...e_Control.html

The OEM CD Player actually controls ambient temperature and stuff. If you remove it for a double din then the displays won't work.

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:12 AM

but was thinking cuz my uncle works at a bodyshop and he can do the bondo stuff for me, so if thats possible, i mite as well use my stock dash piece instead of spending 500 bux on a kit

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:13 AM

o, then how does the kit make u able to use the climate control? isn't is the same, except that the dash piece is premade?

Spinning Sushi 06-19-2008 03:14 AM

The climate control will still work, it's just that you lose some functionality out of it. The red display will not work.

Corksport makes a kit along with a harness that will retain the LCD's functionality.

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:16 AM

oo, wow, hmm, so all i wont have anymore is the time, track, and outside temperature pretty much, but the ac, fan and stuff knobs will still work?

Rx8-13b 06-19-2008 03:36 AM

hmm after a little reading, seems as though doing this would only affect my red display, but some kits say it will make my ac and heater not work, or does it just affect my display up top in the red? im confused o.O

with the corksport dash kit, your lcd still works. the clock and audio information does not work, however. The ambient temp will still display.

You will lose all HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) Controls. The factory radio has a module in it that these buttons and knobs use. Remove the radio and it doesn't matter if the knobs are still there, they won't work without the radio and that module. And no, ou can't take just the module out of the factory radio as it is hard wired.

The Corksport and soon enough Metra kits will come with a new module that will keep the HVAC controls working. That is why it cost 500 dollars for the Corksport kit. If it was a simple as getting a new face plate then everyone would have had a kit out by now.

just wait for the metra as I've already mentioned a million times lol, it will do everything you want for less than the corksport and without the gaps on the sides as well. You can fab your own dashpiece sure, but to keep everything working you'll have to keep the oem radio hooked up and relocated somewhere else in the car which is a HEEYUGE pain in the arse. (just ask me, this is the way we did mine) The metra kit should be out in 2-3 months roughly, that'll give you plenty of time to shop for a sweet ass radio to put in it :D:
