custom leather!
I ordered custom leather seats from leatherseats.com. I got black with red inserts with red stitching all around. they should look great. now we shall see how big a pain in the ass they are to install. I ordered the install kit with the hog ring pliers and hog rings.:spam:

:boring: tell us when you get them.
post some pics when they are delivered and let us know how the install goes.
what price did they run you?
they cost 690$ that includes shipping and the install kit. I had to pay extra for 2 tone and extra for the red stitching. I will post pics for sure.
wow, let me know how this turns out. I am definately looking into this. Only with Silver leather and stitching.
i wanna see how these work out, sounds like a good option to consider...
If you've never reupholstered anything before I would suggest reading up as much as possible before trying. It's not the hardest thing in the world but can go bad quickly if you're not careful.
It's not so hard. The 2nd seat is half as hard as the first and I imagine it gets easier after that. I did my Miata but it only has 2 seats so I will have my RX-8 done by a professional shop.
anyone know how to take the rotor out of the head rest in the seats. I know I saw a thread on this before but I can't seem to find it again with a search?
pics?
UPS is delivering them Monday!
Got them today. Installed the driver side rear and the drivers back support so far. it takes forever to remove the factory upholstery. cutting the hog rings out with dikes. my hands hurt. but it looks great so far. took 5 hours or so to get that far. a little mad though they forgot the red stitching but still nice anyhow. they refunded the 30$ extra I had to pay for the stitching. will post pics when done.

good quality from leatherseats.com
I bought a set of full black leather from them about 2 years ago now. The install is a huge PIA, lots of manual labor. The front seats are definitely harder than the rear pieces, they require lots of stretching and manipulation to get right. With the right tools, it's doable and the results are very nice. The leather has held up very well over time. I had mine done by someone who has done re-upholstery before. Buy more hog rings than you think you need!
Oh another thing, don't put the key into the car when you have the driver's seat out and unplugged, it trips a check engine light and back to the dealer we go. :) |
finally done. was easier the second time around! only took about 2 hours to do 1 1/2 seats that beats the 5 it took me last night!

proof is in the pictures, and i don't see them.

STILL A LITTLE MAD THAT THEY DIDN'T DO THE RED STITCHING BUT OH WELL. I have the red door panel inserts too they sent those for free, we like free!. but I have to figure out how to do them. don't look easy. |
the seats are more comfortable now too. due to the extra padding behind the leather. very nice quality.
PICS ARE UP! |
try using the IMG code from photobucket next time so we don't have to click links for the pics. here they are for you.
