Creaking driver's seat

Anyone else's driver's seat creak?

I drive around A LOT without the radio on because I just love the sounds of the rotary, and notice that in low-speed turns (I guess I"m too busy in high-speed turns!), that my driver's seat is creaking - sounds like a used coffin ...

Anyone else got this issue?

I'm going to go wave the "scratched seat" TSB under their noses along with the creak and see what happens ... maybe I'll get new seats ... :)

Yeah, my (manual) seat creaks. Dealer said they know how to fix it, just have to bring it in.

RevTo9K 11-05-2004 06:31 PM

Mine does it too.

truemagellen 11-05-2004 06:43 PM

are you sure its not your joints if your getting older?

hmm is there a tsb on this...I really don't think so BUT which seat do you have leather or cloth (although I thought the damage seats tsb was only for leather)

Mine's been doing it forever. Got the old 'cannot duplicate' from the service dept.

Gomez 11-05-2004 08:32 PM

I posted a fix for this...do a search...

Dealer replaced my manual seat track two times.

Original one creaked bad, got the "could not duplicate" and was not happy. The mechanic only weighed about 100 lbs and it didn't make noise for him. I'm about 180 and I showed them in the parking lot that is still creaked.

They replaced the assembly and the new one would not adjust for height but did not creak. I left the car at the dealer till they got the second new one in. It's been quiet since. The engine even sounds better without the seat noise.

True Magellen:

Dude, you made me laugh! What's so funny is that as I was writing this post I was thinking to myself "Ok, this oughta be funny, some wiseass is going to say 'it's either your bones making the noise or your fat ass ruining the seat ..."

:)

sucks being 40+

Although most of my creaks happen in those first painful steps out of bed in the morning ...

Thanks for the info on the creaky seat. I've got a GT, so leather seats, and the TSB for seat scratches applies to me. I'll get it taken care of when I take the yellow beast in for its second service next month.

Mine does it to. Really annoying. There was another thread on this about two weeks ago. Let us know if the dealer fixes it as I have had no such luck (one attempt).

Took my 8 in for a second time due to the seat noise (it sounds like an old broken couch). They couldn't figure out how to fix it- when I duplicated the noise for them over and over again they decided to order a replacement seat!

Gomez your fix is not a real fix... I have tried. Now I have a plastic washer under the bolt and it seems to do the trick. It still creaks but it is not as loud now.

Someone used a silicon seal. I think it is a good idea although i have not try, since I found they someone gone loose even for a day or so.

I don't think mine makes a "creak" type noise. But it does make a helluva lot of popping noises while making turns (high or low speed) and while getting in or out. It's not like I'm a big guy either (5'8"/175lbs). I have tried to move the seat with my hands to find out where the noise is coming from to no avail. I hope it's just plastic rubbing together and not something worse. BTW, now that I think about it the seat(bottom) does move alot and seems to have alot more give than I think is normal. I guess I'll have to have it looked at. Anybody else have this specific prob??

My seat is just fine???

It is from the bolts.

Mine are the left front bolt but sometimes the left rear. Try to take the plastics out and rock the joint of the bolt and possibly to see which one is loose.

I guess Mazda designed the seats for petite lightweight Japanese people. :)

And I thought that noise was from my big ass :) (6'3", 260 lbs)

StewC625 12-05-2004 09:01 AM

:)

HtownRX8 12-05-2004 12:49 PM

Yeah mine did the exact thing yours did stewC... I took it to Mazda and they fixed it. I dont know how, but they said they tightened something. No more annoying squeaks or anything.
