Angry It Cost How Much to Replace a Keyless Entry?!!?

I talked to the Mazda dealer and it cost 111.00 to just get a replacement. He wouldn't tell me how much it cost to "reprogram".

Is there another solution or way to get the damn thing to work? It would have been nice to just replace the battery, but they want to milk you for every dime.

Wink Battery....

If it's just the battery, they sell them at my local "99cent" store, if it's not the battery, you're only out about $1!

They sell the remotes on ebay, about $30.

Programming for it is in our DIY section.

Either learn to do it yourself or learn to stop complaining about how much the dealer wants!

Thanks for the info. I don't see a way to install or replace the keyless remote unit with the battery, unless i split it in two. Thanks for the link. Hopefully it will work.

Or you can do what i did and have them replace them under warranty. Both of mine quit working even after new batteries. Course there is always ebay.

I bought the RX with 7k on it. I have one key and the remote which now doesn't work. I bought the warranty with the authorized mazda dealer. I don't know if the keyless is covered under this.

OK I just pried it open and there is a battery in there. I will replace it and let you know what happens. It seems like it can close.

funny about this topic:

today in the morning paper there was an article about the increasing cost of the FOBs (what the hell does that stand for anyway)

The keyless entry remotes, and it had stories of how one guy lost the key to his prius and and to spend 800 dollars to get it fixed. Similar stories on the benz keys etc etc.

The article then went into how traditional key shops are starting to upgrade and try to fill the gap in the market for electronic key replacement. Rather interesting.

I just know I keep a kung-fu grip on my RX8 keys, they are either clipped to my belt with one of thos snapping "climber" metal harnesses or on the nightstand.
