Corksport stereo kit - the steering wheel controls
 

I decided to start a new thread for this so nobody misses it.

The steering wheel control package showed up today. I am sending it back without even bothering to try and install it. One thing that wasn't at all clear when ordering it was how they made it work.

What's included in the package: The unit comes with another wiring harness like the one that comes with the stereo replacement kit. The unit itself is a little black box that measures roughly 4" x 2" x 1.5". You power it via a few of the unused plugs on the wiring harness - which are clearly marked in the stereo replacement kit's manual as well. The black box has a long cable with a transmitter on the end of it.

How it works: It's all wireless. You need to have a HU that has a remote control function plus you MUST HAVE a remote control for your HU. You then have to mount the transmitter in such a fashion where it can broad cast to the from of your HU. The directions suggest mounting it on the side of the center console just in from of the HU. You need the remote control for your HU so you can program the wireless transmitter in the kit with the corresponding functions.

I'm sure it will work fine. I'm also sure it's going to look ghetto no matter how you install it. I can live without having the steering wheel controls.

This is really disappointing because my HU does have a plug on the back for accepting an external steering wheel control device. I was guessing that this unit would just plug into that port and be golden. Not so much.

ra-eight is on the right track ...corksport just doesnt have the hard wired kit. ive seen them before there like 60-80 bucks. theres hope :)

I'm planning to get a Pioneer deck with Wired Remote Input compatibility, so this kit looks promising, but have any of you actually verified that it works with our steering wheel controls?

there is a company that makes and adapter for the stering controls for eclipse but the model number is swi-ecl look for it on ebay and several stores my understing is only a cable that you use in order to maintain some of the cotrol in the stering wheel i hope this helps its only like 60 bucks
