CorkSport Kit has me stressed!!!
well my attempt to install my corksport kit on my own has made me go borderline insane.
The connectors on the back of the stereo are a BI*** to take off. I got 2 off before i finally quit. How long has it taken some of you DIY'Rs to install it? |
Took me about an hour to do the Axxess box install. I would say that at least 45 minutes of it was trying to get the three connectors off the HVAC controls.
|
so, im pretty much doing one of the hardest parts right now.

a small mirror and a flashlight will help alot when u can see what you are doing. (or getting an asian friend to help u would help too)
|
Sorry I can't help you out there. I had a stereo shop put mine in for me. Goo luck with it. Post some photos when you are done.

I read up on everything about installing it, poured over these forums and the avic forums... read up on the corksport directions, etc. Then drove it all to a shop in union city and picked it up that evening :)

its really not bad after you've done it a few times. Its easiest to take a flathead and pull the radio out as far as possible then up and get the connectors underneath with the flathead. Good Luck! |
mine took 3hrs and im asian

I don't think the corksport kit is to blame for the stress like your title suggests..
It took me about 45 mins.. but i'm pretty good at getting my dash apart and back together in a timely manner. You just have to know where the little release buttons are on the wire harnesses.. good luck man :) |
Those connections in the back are a b!tch!!!
I had to take off the glove box for better access. I don't know how guys with big hands can even reach back there. One reason I'm putting off getting an iPod adapter is having to take the headunit back out. |
3hrs for the corksport kit and a NAV headunit is pretty damn good. DAMN good. I know I took my sweet ass time and it took me about 5 1/2 hours I think. But I also did bluetooth and steering wheel controls.
For someone that doesnt do car audio, set aside an entire day to do it. Take your time. No need to get frustrated. That's when shit happens. |

So you have the Bose package? Did you get the steering wheel adapter sold by Corksport or went with a different manufacturer?

All done! Came out looking great!

Thanks firebirdude. I have a question about the Corksport kit that you guys have already installed. I noticed from looking at the pictures of your installs that there is a black, vertical, plastic piece that is used to fill out the excess space unused by the 2din unit. Are there units that would fill out the whole void and not use that vertical piece? I haven't gotten around to installing mine yet and want to know what I am getting myself into before I attempt this on my own. Thanks in advance guys.
|
Nope. If they did, they wouldn't be double-din in size.
