Holy Sh*t!!! Have You Seen This!!!

Alright guys this is the system setup I have been working on for my wifes RX-8. Let me know what you think. The system includes 3 Pairs of Polk Momo 5 1/4 Co-axials, 1 Pair of Polk Momo 6X9's, 2 Polk Momo 500.1 Amps, 1 Polk Momo 400.4 Amp, and 2 Polk Momo 10" Subs. All the Cables are Pro Tsunami RCA's and 0 Gauge wire. I used a "Dave Navone" Sound Q High Level Converter to make sure that i recieved better than 6 volt preout from the head unit. Sounds great and hoping to get some trophies here soon at the NOPI Nationals!! The door panels and box I built from fiberglass and mdf and then had a friend Named Brad P. paint them for me. Let me know what you guys think!!!

WHO CARES

I love your set up

momo stereo 07-05-2004 06:48 AM

Yes, I am running everything off of the stock head unit (non-Bose). I used a "Dave Navone" high level converter. Works Great!!!

spoildrottn 07-06-2004 09:56 AM

Tell her that's what the back seats are for. ; -D

LiL BenNy 01-20-2005 03:52 PM

how much does it cost around for door panels like that?

AvatarQAZ 01-20-2005 04:03 PM

why didnt you use a component set and raise the imaging up higher? I think you may have really degraded your SQ and overall sound immersion by adding both coaxials and 6x9.

But I like the setup!!!! Very nicely done!

momo stereo 01-20-2005 04:22 PM

lil beny, as far as door panels go...i built these....but door panels can run anywhere from 225.00 to 400.00 per door depending on what you are interested in having done......i have a set of door panels if you are wanting something similar done let me know.....

As far as degrading me sound for the other person below your post.......Besides the fact that the door panels were built for the "O Factor" as much as they were built for sound......Imaging must not be your thing......these speakers are not co-axial speakers...they are in fact components speakers that come with independent crossovers for the tweeter seperate from the mid bass......if you ever look in a sound q car you are going to see that they have kick panels for imaging ...they do not mount tweeters up on the a pillar to get that TTTTTTTTTTTT sound..... but i do appreciate the comments.....besides the speakers sound great....

thanks

AvatarQAZ 01-20-2005 04:37 PM

This is just my opinion please remember :). I have installed and competed with many vehicles. Primarily, pickup trucks. Try to get good SPL and SQ out of that. These are my discoveries with SQ in vehicles.

Kick panels are the best for sound. Hands down. Remember, they are angled across from their respective recipient for perfect sound clarity. I use to laser align kick panels to ensure they were either meeting at the center of the vehicle or directly in a person's ear. Remember, the majority of your sound response is going to come from the opposite side of where you are sitting.

Mounting them up high, say on the pillars, is close with in dash mounting as a second option... in the dash MIGHT have an edge. In the door, is 3rd.

You can see where this is going :). Once again, I am not intending to be an ass. Merely, I wish to know why.

PA_RX8 01-20-2005 05:00 PM

Great set up! 4 thumbs up here. Are you using the stock HU?

flip 01-20-2005 05:34 PM

wow.. i wish i knew how to lay fiberglass.. Hmm... gonna go to home depot and practice! :D LOL

momo stereo 01-20-2005 09:09 PM

avatar,

i too did not intend to come off like a pain...i was just trying to explain why i chose the speakers with the config. i did.....Thanks for the input.....opinions are warranted in this business, after 8 years of this line of work some people like and some don't.....sound is a perseption not a fact......have a great year in audio!!!!

theCATALYST 01-20-2005 09:35 PM

Ok, I will PM my shipping address so you can send that entire set up to me (In Winning Blue)
Ok, just kidding, but I LOVE IT!!....And that is a creative way to place your Bottles, NICE!

foxman 01-20-2005 11:11 PM

would love to hear the sound, and the door panels look very cool, did you consider any other layouts for the trunk?

momo stereo 01-21-2005 07:26 AM

Acutually,

i wanted to use the entire trunk and go all show......and fiberglass the trunk lid with some tv's but it is my wifes car and she goes more for the simple yet elegant look....i wanted to put 8- 8" woofers in the trunk so that when you opened it up the woofers would be in a fiberglass tub that would be almost at the edge of the trunk and ported in to the car through the rear deck....i would have just left out the 6x9 speakers and built tuned ports to come through the deck in their place....i am still contemplating putting 2 10" tv's in the rear doors......

Rotator 01-21-2005 04:03 PM

Door panels only $225-$400 with paint?
That is a steal. How many hours do you figure in labour to pull that off?
Nice job from what I can see in the pics.

I would have put the speakers in the sides of the car to give your wife a trunk. But hey - it's show right?

Also - 3 seperates/door? Seems overkill as cheap drivers will definately not be matched as will their respective x-overs. Why not go for a single pair of 5 1/4, or 6.5"?? Something good - focal, dynaudio, etc? Polks are ALWAYS too bright for my liking.

With all those drivers you are going to have timbre matching, as well as phase issues wrt SQ.

Looks cool, but from a standpoint of SQ - simple point source is best. A small low mass midbass with smooth tweeter and matched crossovers would be best.

But this is a car right? Who cares about SQ?

AvatarQAZ 01-21-2005 04:33 PM

I agree... sound is perception momo-man ;). I see you are also located in GA!!! I am, literally, 15 minutes away from you :). Maybe some day, we can just build build build a kick-ass stereo :) Of, course, it would be installed in MY car...

momo stereo 01-21-2005 06:24 PM

no the one enclosing the actual subs. What are they called? When I went to tweeters they didnt know what I was talking about when I asked them.

momo stereo 01-23-2005 09:27 AM

The things behind the subd are amplifiers andd the things that the subs are mounted in are a fiberglass box I built to that is painted to match the outside of the car....
