Check out my system setup, yay or nay?

Hey guys, I have 2 JL W1's and a e1400D monoblock JL Amp with a fosgate capacitor and other goodies. Ive had a rough install for a while in my trunk and I recently went in and redid it and tucked all the wires and installed neons, etc. So heres my setup. Feel free to compliment, constructively criticize, whatever. Please keep in mind that alot of time, energy, and money was put into this so if you wanna give negative comments, please be respectful about it. Ok heres the pics, click the link :)

Yea I know, I did it myself and that box is just a JL box that really isnt designed for the RX8. But it looks wicked at night with the neons, theres also a 24 Inch tube also on the top of the trunk. But hey its a start. :)

I would have hid the neons and got a smaller box. JL's don't require that much airspace. Also, I would've taken off the speaker grills.
Other than that, good job.

Nays - take the grills off; put the neons on top so you can't see them; thats probably waaay to much box for those subs - I suggest getting bigger subs ;)

Yays - I like the slanted board for your goodies its a unique idea; the install is nice n clean looking; overall good-job!

^^agree

don't know that much about audio systems, but could you mount them in two separate box's and shape them to fit in either side of the trunk behind the lights?

Overall it does look nice and you can tell that you took your time.

Nays-
1. Theres no way you can fit a body in the trunk now.
2. I third the motion to hide the neons up top

Yays-
Looks good nice install :) bass has got to be sweet. I'd keep the grills, during my install I changed subwoofers a few times and punctured a Punch P3.

P.S did you change the cabin speakers too?

i kept the bose speakers, that factory system has so much treble that everything goes perfect together! Im not saying it has skull crushing bass by any means but it definetly hits the lows! :) there is another 24 inch neon mounted on the top, i had those two lying around so i just mounted them on the other side of the amp to give it some symmetry, eh its something different imo.

firebirdude 12-20-2007 08:09 AM

The install looks decently clean IMO, but the install design itself it not my cup of tea. (doesn't seem to be anyone elses either) Being that you didn't make the box, I guess it's ok. If you would have purposefully designed and built that box, then we'd have to ban you from the boards......HAHA!!!......... no but really....

jb4wc 12-20-2007 12:31 PM

Nay..Hide the neons and IMO the speaker box is hideous and the install overall is not very eye catching and looks like someone threw a buch of crap together and hit play.

takes up too much space, put the neons up top (simple)

im trying to figure out what good the rx8 logo is if its turned the wrong direction??

if i were you i would get rid of the neons on the floor, move the cap to the other side, and retain your bottle of oil and whatever to keep some symmetry. Atleast the bottle of oil would have some purpose... and yes, box is way to big and not very functional if the subs are firing at the rear deck top? fire them on a horizontal plane atleast. Good job though ive seen worse.

:squint: How does it look like someone threw a bunch of crap together and hit play? OK, the setup may not be for everyone but its pretty evident i didnt "throw a bunch of crap in my trunk". I spent alot of time on it. The neons were an experiment so I can take those out anytime bc I already have one mounted on top. That hideous JL box is designed for the W1's and the RX8 logo is backwards because the piece between the rear seats is off so passengers can read it and it lights up the cabin red. I experimented ALOT with positioning and I found that the subs firing upward and towards the cabin while taking the piece off provided the cleanest sound.

how did you put the sub in the backseat like that

lol, the pictures in this thread are waayyy old. My system looks way different now.

i think its a good setup - im in the same boat - not an install guy, but trying to do it myself from now on.i would get a smaller box, that thing is huge, and i would move those lights up, were the 6x9's are - they will not be seen and you will still get the light.I know it sounds great, and thats what matters to me.

markav33 11-03-2008 11:19 AM

thread revival, are you the only guy with the sub in between the rear seats? i've pm'd you about this before and well....was just wondering how well it sounds without a box?
