Center Dash & Stereo gone BLACK
 

Hi,

I recently tried adding a iPod wiring kit to my car and I couldn't get the stereo out, due to a hidden bolt that I soon found out about here in rx8club.com.

So, I ended up driving away from the install. Stereo Working. About a week after when driving I noticed the center console flashing (where the temperature outside and the heating/cooling system is).

All of a sudden now center console and stereo doesn't work. I went back into the center arm rest, where I first took things apart and made sure everything was tight and it was. So I also tried looking at the fuses that are inside the car and they seemed good also. However, I wasn't sure about the fuse that are under the hood. I didn't have the full names of the fuses so I didn't want to start screwing around with that.


Basically now I'm stuck with no stereo and center console. :banghead:

Does anyone have a clue on what I should do?

I had my sun visor break a couple months back, well the two wires that are in the sun visor that power the lighted mirror touched and blew the fuses to a bunch of things (including the radio.) I would again double check all fuses, the ones in the car and under the hood.

I guess I'll check it again. Do you know where I could find the information on what the fuse are under the hood?

Grab a multimeter. Set it to test continuity. Use the test points on the fuses to check every single one. Run up one row and down the next. Should take 60 seconds.

But if the lighting was "flashing" or flickering, odds are it's not a fuse. But rather a loose connection. Did you ever get the radio out? Or took the center console apart and then gave up?

I had this same problem when I installed my ipod adapter. The cause of this is not the adapter, it is the radio itself. Pull the radio out and look at the top right corner, their is a gold bolt which holds the faceplate onto the radio. This is where the loose connection is which controls the display and radio. Play around with it and it should fix your problem.

i am currently having this problem. I plugged in everything to the radio, checked all my fuses that pertain to this, and still she is black. i also did notice that screw was loose, but i tightened it and still she is black. this is what i hate about electronic problems

Play around with it. The loose connection is inside where the screw is. When you put the unit back in, depending on how you do it, the connection will come back. Try putting it in and then press on the area on the faceplate once the unit is back in. You could even try banging on the unit from the side panel once it is back in the dash. I had your exact problem and this worked for me. I would also suggest that once you get the connection back, place some Goop inside where the screw goes so that it isn't loose. My connection went out when I went over a huge bump in the road due to road construction. So far since I did this, I haven't had a single problem. Yet.:uhh: Hopefully this helps.

i hate to be a pain, but what screw exactly are you talking about?

When you take out the unit, it is the gold bolt which attaches the faceplate to the radio/ cd changer. It is the top bolt on the passenger side of the radio.
