Car audio help!
 

Hey so I have installed an after market stereo head unit, speakers, and 2 amps and 2 subs. Everything was working great, but yesterday the speakers just stopped working and they cut in and out, I cannot seem to get them to work. I tried undoing the head unit and all the wiring but i cannot figure out why the speakers are not working... and Ideas what i can check or what is going on with it?

what is the rms wattage for the amps and speakers?

I dont remember off the top of my head, but it cuts in and out. And when I first installed it, everything was working fine... I also tried to hook it up to the other amp but nothing is working, its like it works when it wants. I am really baffled, I thought that it might be the amp but i hooked everything over to one amp that I know works, but nothing. not even just one speaker.... im lost ha.

i had a similar issue on my last car, and it was that the amps were over powering the speakers. had to sell those amps and get the right watt amps

Even though it was working??? Like it was working for about 7 months.... now it just stops working

yea it worked for a few months then stopped. it started cutting out after a short amount of time(10-15 minutes) then just stopped working all together, i took it somewhere and they told me that was the problem. when i bought it on ebay, the guy had the amps listed with the rms as max watts, so i took half of that to get the rms. but that was definitely the problem i had, got new amps and kept the same speakers and subs and everything worked perfect for the next 2 years of owning that car

ok, cool I will try that. If that doesnt work any other ideas?

check to see if power is getting through the whole system, is there any light on the amps that come on besides the power light or does that one change color? the only other thing i could think of is trying it with another head unit to see if it is an error in there

yea, everything works... the lights come on, i have not tried the other head unit yet, but it seems to work with the meta dash kit... and i want to do it myself becasue everyone is so expensive!

I had similar problems that drove me crazy - turned out it was the main fuse I put in under the hood. It was loose, so it would get enough power to turn on amps and maybe work at a low volume, but would cut out on any serious power draw. Pull the fuse, put it back in and tighten it.. also check ALL the connections (battery, both sides of the fuse, amp(s) power, amp(s) ground, car ground, amps remote, car remote)

I had similiar problems in my 99 camaro, it ended up being the type of connectors on my stock head unit weren't the type needed for the amp and subs and the place I took it to rigged the wiring. (Custom car audio, hiram,ga). Finally got it fixed after about $500. Bought new head unit and had to have the wiring redone.

You're just gonna have to start troubleshooting man. Grab the multimeter and start at the amp's inputs. Make sure you have power on both the battery and remote-turn on lead when it's playing, let it play and watch the meter. When it cuts out, see if the voltage dips too. If not, then you know it's either the RCAs into the amp or the amp itself cutting off. Look for protection lights too.

If you can't get any audio anymore, it actually makes you job easier. Check for power at the amp. Either you have it or you don't. If the amp has both batt and remote power, it should turn on regardless of anything else. It may sit in protection mode, but it will still always turn on.

Lastly, if all your speakers are cutting in and out at the same time, it's not a connection problem at the speakers. So don't go ripping the door panels off just yet.

Haha IT WAS THE FUSE!!!!! this is why you don't buy the kit at walmart! ha it melted under my car!
