A/C round vent gauge pod... where to find it?

I'm searching for a gauge pod which goes into the ac round vent but can't find one!

Something like this: http://www.therpmstore.com/store/p/5...daspeed-3.html
(unfortunately this is too small for our ac vent hole :-/)

Do you know if/where can I buy it online?

you should try this: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/dual-vent-gauge-pod-rx8-203584/

I don't need that one, I already knew it.
I just want one like this as I said:

if i recall someone had done it but nobody seem to like due its not really functional to delete the vent out of it.. just can't remember those thread..

I found one but it leads to nothing and ebay link is dead :-/
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/ever-see-someone-put-boost-gauge-replace-driver-air-vent-115240/

maybe the only one solution is to "customize" my actual a/c vent pod ^_^

foo77 12-03-2011 02:04 AM

that was the thread i'm talking about.. i think the only way to have it customize by yourself.. just wonder why you want something like that? imo it doesn't look good, i'm rather have those single/double vent gauge.. but if you still want to do those vent pod, just post a thread about it :)

A friend of mine has one for his VW GTI. I don't know if it's vehicle specific or what. But just thought I'd share the info if it could help you in your search.

And that one for the Mazda3 looks pretty much identical to the RX8 vent.

Quick update (maybe no one needs it but anyway... :))

The vent pod can be extracted just pulling from the three "winglets" (sorry i don't know how to call them ^_^) so no need to disassemble the entire car as the service manual suggests (LOL) and with a flat screwdriver and some carefulness it can be totally disassembled. Here is it:

Another quick update for those who may be interested.

I bought a VEI Systems D1-OPP-OTC-M 52mm gauge, it's a dual oil pressure/oil temp gauge. I also bought VEI temp sender SEN-T320D and pressure sender SEN-P100I.

This is the gauge fitted in driver side air vent:

In order to fix the gauge I had to trim away only two/three little pieces of plastic from the vent, so it's still 99% intact and it can eventually be reassembled and reused perfectly.

hey thats a cool idea man! I'd like to see a pic of it installed in the car. nice work.

And finally I finished!

This is the rear of the air vent with the gauge and the wires separated (one group goes through the firewall, the other goes to the ashtray):

I drilled two holes in the air duct (you can reach the duct looking up from under the steering wheel).

Holes from outside the air duct:

Holes from under the dash:

Wires routed in:

I chose to go through the firewall from the hole used by the hood release cable, so the 3-wires group went through it.

My gauge has memory, so it doesn't need constant +12V but only a switched +12V (and another +12V only when lights are on, so the gauge goes in "night mode" and lowers his dim if you turn on the lights).
I chose to connect the two +12V wires to Cigarette Lighter +12V wire (switched) and Ashtray Light +12V wire (lights on).
Here are the two wires from the ashtray, in case you need (obviously you can check them with a simple tester):

And finally here are two pics of the gauge mounted in air vent and turned on:

That is all :)

Not too shabby. But I need that vent it's gets too hot here in South Texas.

Vent is fully functional, air comes from the empty circle between the frame and the gauge. You only loose the air direction.

The pictures towards the end of this thread aren't displaying for me, have they been removed?

That would be like 1/6 the value of the average RX-8.
