Buying a New Escort 9500IX on Ebay?
 

Ok. So I'm planning to buy an Escort 9500iX, but refuse to pay $500 from Escort. I found a brand new, never opened, 9500IX on EBay with the current bidding price at $305. It ends tomorrow, so if the price doesn't go up a lot more, I want to buy it.

Now I've heard that Escort won't honor warranty, or allow you to purchase the subscription to update the detector if it wasn't bought from them, or an authorized dealer. I know EBay isn't authorized, so I wouldn't be eligible for the updates at all. I don't really care to much about traffic cameras and red light cameras because where I live, they don't really affect me. I'm not dumb enough to run a red either.

Since I'm not going to buy it directly from Escort, it would either be EBay, or a used one off Craigslist. It seems like either way though you lose out on the warranty. So my question for you guys would be whether it would be a dumb idea or not o purchase off EBay or used? With the ones off EBay, since they aren't returnable, I know there is a risk of receiving a defective unit, being new or even used off Craigslist. Would either of those still be worth the chance?
