never fear, Jedi is here! I had the same situation you did and here's what I did with mine.

Jedi, I may be incorrect, but you're still using the factory Bose 9" front door speakers? And aside from the headunit and Bose amp, that's the only Bose equipment you're still running?

djkrazy, please review some recent topics in this subforum. Also review the audio reference sticky at the top of this subforum.

firebirdude: correct.
the 9" door speakers, headunit, and amp are still there.

If you don't want to go whole hog and replace everything but the HU, you HAVE to keep the 9" woofers.

Jedi, Once I figure out my ground loop I want to test your system against mine. See who sounds better. I may even be in Irvine in the near future (instead of east bay)

let me know socket, I'm always up for a little competition. ;)

socket: just saw your google page; lookin' good. Just 1 sub?

Just 1. The other channel I could use for a sub feeds the front center speaker instead. I was really hesitant to go for the front center speaker at first because it seemed like a lot of work to get the nav hood off, but it was quite easy once the radio was out, and totally worth it. The sound stage is perfect. Sounds like the whole band is playing just in front of your windshield.

When I get a 2 ohm sub in there instead of my current 4 ohm, I think I should be able to set off car alarms.

I completely forgot about the center speaker when I did my install. Hmmm....
what size is that little guy?

The sticky says you can make a 4 inch fit, but you're going to need to remove a significant amount of material from the mounting location to manage it. I ended up getting a 3.5 inch JL TR that required maybe 10 minutes with some 60 grit sand paper to get it to drop into place nicely. I put it in before I replaced my door speakers and the difference in sound detail afterwards was startling. The impedance of the stock front center is suitable for a drop in, 4 ohm replacement, but I'm not sure what the bose crossover and EQ curve would do to the sound quality. I wired mine directly to my main amplifier.
