Bose adapter harness
 

My 6 disc changer packed it in this week and I want to replaced my factory unit with a aftermarket double din unit (pioneer or sony), I just want to replace the head unit I don't care about the speakers right now. What I wanted to know is if there is a harness adapter for the bose system? I plan on using the metra kit but I wasn't sure how the harness works with the climate controls and the radio. Before I start a flame war, I search all over for info but I keep reading endless threads of useless info. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just buy the Metra kit and your double-din and you're good to go.

I just hooked up my Alpine Double Din and the Volume is WAY too loud in the car. I mean it is Rockin hard with the volume at 4. Has anyone encountered this? If so what do I do about it?

I plan on getting rid of the Bose system all together but I dont have the cash for it right now.

I just dumped little over $5,000 in the car with performance upgrades and the new headunit + Metra kit. I just dont want to have to rewire the speaker system right now.

Does the Axxess box that came with the Metra kit have a small plastic knob you can turn with a flathead screw driver?

I didnt see one. the part number is also 95-7510HGC instead of 95-7510G. I dont know what the C is unless it means the updated software.

Maybe for the non-Bose units?

The exact same thing happens when people put in the Base stereo into a car with Bose. You using the RCA outputs on your Alpine?

No Metra only makes one kit. I check their site then called them then gave Crutchfield a call, they said I need a line converter PAC SOEM-4 to turn down the output. It makes sence. Ill order it and put it in, I just thought I was done with the harness. SUCKS


Im using the Sub and rear to drive 2 sub amps for now. was gonna try out their amplifer that runs in series with the factory wiring for the highs when I switch them. If I need more than 45 rms x 4 for them then Ill get an amp. Im just limited on space. the trunk is full and under the pass seat is an Alpine amp for the center channel and the tweets I added on.

You might want to pop in the "Metra update cable" thread and ask those guys. I don't know a ton about the Metra kit, but I know they didn't have to buy any add-ons with or without the Bose system. Sounds like you're using the Alpine's built in amp when you should be using the RCA outputs for the Bose system with something like this:

I am using the Alpine internal amp, but I am using all 3 of the RCA outputs for other things as well (2 for sub amps, 1 for center channel+additional tweets). using the Pac convertor box looks to be the best route. Its made for adding RCAs like the plug in harness I used to use but it can also be spliced between speaker wires to turn down output.

Eventually Im upgrading the Inside speakers and ditching the bose setup all together. Just trying to decide what brand speakers to go with, and size in the front (kinda hard to find a 8.5" woofer) not sure if I should do 6x9, 6x8, or 6.5" components in the doors. 6x9 components are going in the rear. after I figure out what speakers I want I'll find an amp to match them. I'm running an Alpine amp for my center and extra tweets so I'd say i'll go with another Alpine to keep with the flow. I have the inline amp that runs in series between the headunit harness and headunit to bump output to 45wrms x 4. might try it. the flexability of the headunit is impressive.

I have 151.4db of bass in the trunk so I'd really like to hear it if I have the bass amp levels all the way up and Im not sure if 45 wrms wold be enough

......so buy RCA Y-cables or a simple Line output converter (LOC). Don't make it harder than it is.

This isnt hard and, from talking to high end installers, the way it is suppose to be done. You just open up the splice made from the headunit harness to metras harness and run it inline. its the same as installing a lineout convertor. Id rather not lower the output voltage of the RCAs on the deck. That doesnt work with my amps very well plus I'd like to like to keep my fader too. From where I see it as being an installer yrs ago the RCA method is eventually asking for trouble unless the bose amp is recieving a low impeaadence signal to begin with. I dont know if it is or not but if it is recieving a high impeadence input and it gets a low one not only will sound quaity suffer dramatically but it can/will damage the HU and the Amp. Thats coming from the electronic engineer in me.
