Blown REV pioneer component?
 

Anybody ever blow a mid range? My amp shouldnt have had enough power to damage this but i just noticed that my midrange isnt moving. If i force the basket with my hand i can feel vibration at the top of the stroke as if it is getting power and my tweeter is functioning fine.

Any ideas what this could be or ways to trouble shoot this?

I dont want to call pioneer customer service becuase they blow. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with them while the tech tried to figure out how to get the dedicated sub output on my N@ turned back on last night.

If your speaker is blown, then your amp does indeed have enough power to blow it. Turn the gains down, set the crossover correctly and do not play it as sustained volume levels without allowing the speaker to cool down.

my gains are all the way down allready and i have the crossovers set so its not getting anything lower then 125. Trust me these speakers are not being over worked in any way shape or form. Is there anyway to trouble shoot this? Every other speaker i have bown (crappy subarus) have always made that distinct crackle, this one just has no movement at all.

The speaker could have just failed due to some kind of manufacture defect. Depending on where you got it, see if you can get a warranty replacement. If not, then your just out whatever money you put into it.

Invest in some nice Boston Acoustics or Alpine type R's or something.. you'll be much happier.

Type r's and REVs are pretty much identical spec wise.

Besides, the thread was not to suggest what people think is better, i love these speakers and they sound amazing. The thread was to trouble shoot and gather information from people whos midranges might have just failed like this and the reasoning behind it.

See how the speaker is mounted. Is it mounted un a uneven surface for example. This twists the basket of the speaker and off centers the voice coils and rub rub rub stuck all of a sudden. If there is a large amount of moisture in the area, the coils may have come in contact with water and built up rust or residue.

If the speaker is fine from the descriptions above, it is indeed 100% too much power that caused the failure.
