AuxMod: Seems I've done something stupid ...

Well, got my AuxMod from SylFex today, followed THIS GUIDE to install it and to my (unpleasant) surprise the Bose Radio/CD wouldn't come on... I mean, no lights, no sound and no text display (NAV lcd is fine). So, I removed the AuxMod and tried again, but still the same results. I have checked all the plugs/connectors and they all seem fine. This was not my first time removing the Radio, so I know I plugged everything right. To be honest, while I didn't really hurry to install it, I didn't consider the possibility that the connector for the AuxMod could go in slightly to the left or right of the plug (I figured it was a perfect match), and only after it was all said and done I realized there's plenty of slack for it to move side to side, so I'm guessing that I may have fried something if the plug wasn't propperly centered the first time I had it plugged... Now, both the FAN and AC controls work fine (including the thermostat knob) which from what I've been reading, means the headunit is still working ?? but the radio wont turn on, and the CD player won't load CDs either. Seems I have a complete outage of power on the Audio. I did check the Audio fuse and even swapped it with one of the spare ones and still no changes... I'm very much familiar with electronics and I know I didn't misshandle anything (other than that possible connection of the AuxMod I thought was a perfect match). There's no sign that anything was burnt or shorted in the process (inside or outside the unit), all the cables and boards seem to be tight in place.

Has anyone had anything like that happen ? Can anybody think of anything else I should try ? I already have a scheduled visit to the dealer to do my 30K revision and I guess I could have them take a look at it but I wonder if by simply removing/reinstalling the radio would be enough reason for them to void my warranty ? Of course I won't tell them about my attempt to plug a third-party mod into the radio, but I'm afraid I'm just going to get stuck with a big bill to replace the darn thing... :tear:

Did you unplug the battery before you installed the Auxmod?

Guino 05-21-2006 08:35 AM

when installing and when removing it.

Sorry for your misfortunes, but if it wasn't for your post about the side to side play (1-2mm), I may have fried my HU also. Already been there done that with the Audiolink unit (fragile connector harness = fractured wires...). Anyhoo, noting that the AuxMod must be centered perfectly, the install went well and I am once again enjoying outstanding tunage with a Treo 650 providing the mp3s.
Many thanks. :D:

Well, they fixed my radio under warranty (at least that), and now I have V9.55 of the firmware, so I'm just going with the PIE+indashpc adapter route (so I can use steerring wheel controls).... this is so I don't mess it up again (maybe my auxmod is shot now anyway).. I may try it (more carefully) if I get one of them AuxMod advanced for integration into RoadRunner as they seemed interested in having it (last I talked to them). But I'm sure glad I'll be able to use my steerring wheel controls with the carpc now.

I know this is an older thread, but just found this while lurking. I too am having no power to the HU, or to the mode/AC function after having a Ice-link installed. Couldn't find the problem. It is now at the dealer (after removing the after market stuff) and even they are having difficulty fixing the problem. They have ordered several different parts to replace and it still won't power up.
The audio tech. who installed the Ice Link didn't disconnect the battery.....do you think this could have caused all this? Now, if I ever get the radio/cd and mode switches working again...I am afraid to try and install the ice-link...although I don't think I can live without my iPod. Would love any further input you may have on this subject.

Well, if you just want a cheap aux-in, go with the car2pc adapter... it works flawless.. :P they did replace my HU and it's working great now.. :)

Do you have a link to the adapter you are using? i can't find one for Mazda, it only says toyota, vw, bmwm etc.

Hey Guino! Nice to see you here.
I'm using the car2pc and it wouks great, though I am trying to hack the playlist support to work better with my RoadRunner config.

Is the plug you are discussing the blue, two-row that goes into the open connector on the back? Isn't that shrouded? How can the connector go in mis-aligned?

You know what is great about the AuxMod? When you're using it, the LED displays "TAPE PLAY ^" with an arrow pointing upwards. Perfect for when I'm watching tv/movie on my nav screen. In a way its telling you that the audio being played is for the "tape" you are watching above.

If you toggle usecar2pc=true in RR.INI you won't need the HUMP3 plugin they provide.. it will then work through RR and control not only MP3s but video, Sirius/XM and FM tuners.

The plug I was referring to was for sylfex's aux mod (which I *tried* before). I still may try the auxmod advanced later if it ever comes to production.
