New Speaker Install--no pics yet

I'm pulling the factory speakers out-- Replacing the front with Infinity Kappa 60.5s components in the front and Infinity Reference 3 way 6x9s in the back. I've already installed the 6x9s to see the difference and its alot better--the magnet on the Infinity's are more than twice the size than that of the sorry factory speakers. The install on the 6x9s on the base system can be done without pulling the seats--I also did not have a problem with fitment at all and did not have to screw them in from the bottom. I have an Audiobahn A4004T 4ch 50watt RMS amp on the way to push the whole setup. I plan on doing a custom panel to mount the amp so that I will have the most amount of useable space. I don't have any plans for the sub because I still need practicality--I am leaning toward a plug and play Infinity Basslink however. Any opinions?

So the 6x9s were a drop-in? That's good news...I'm looking at getting those same speakers and I could have sworn I read a review where they had to pull the seats...maybe it is a thing with the Bose?

Yeah--I used that thread as a DIY for my install--but me and my homeboy saw no need--for the BOSE you have to pull the seats to get to the tweeters that are back there I suppose, but we didn't have any problems. Once the amp comes in It'll have to be rewired anyway--and my friend thats hooking all that up is an installer for Mobile One so I'm confident in his work--plus I'll be there. Without an Amp the speakers sound noticeable better--but they'll distort at MAX with all the settings at 6.

I have no idea how did you pull the rear speakers without removing the seats - when I did mine, I noticed that the screws go in from the top and additionally, they are torx screws, not just regular phillips heads.

Well, you have to pull and hold the seats far enough away from the top so that you can get your hand to the tabs holding the speaker cover down; I have the cloth seats so I don't know if the leather seats are harder to move like that ( I don't see why they would be). The cover snaps off simply enough--you just have to be careful not to drop one of the tabs down behind the seats--then you do have to take the seats out. My homeboy that helped me with the install had the torx screw head on the end of a curvable power drill so it was a sinch. Now, once I wire the amp and what not and the speakers in front the back seats will probably have to come out--we'll see. At install time I was glad I hadn't gone with the BOSE. On my 98 Millenia S I had added a Pioneer 12in IMPP 600Watt Sub pushed by a Crunch 800watt 2 channel amp (400 watts to the sub) to the factory BOSE system and it was what we call BANG. It added the bass and then some. I want something a little more conservative for the 8. That's why I'm leaning toward Basslink.

I am not calling anyone a liar.....but to correctly install the back speakers in the base stereo sytem...you absolutely have to pull the seats out.....there is a plastic pin on the front of the rear panel that is benid the seat.....unless you forced the back of the seat down...which would probably leave a crease in the seat...i just did a custom install on some Polk MOMO 6x9's last week....and the car was base model stereo( non-bose)....I have been a professional installer for over 8 years......the seats have to come out not to break the plastic pin....

LOL--I'll take pics for you if you want--but you DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE SEATS OUT. Besides the fact that there is no reason to lie about this, you can reach the tab by pulling the seat forward--there was no crease left either. My guess is that it is not the correct professional way you would go about doing it--but I'm no professional installer--and all I know is we did it and its done--no crease no missing tabs at all. Believe me momo-stereo there are more than enough things to lie on an internet forum about than installing 6x9s in the back of an RX8.

Eh. The seats are really easy to get out, anyway. Probably some of the easiest seats to get out. It takes all of 5 minutes. No one should be afraid to pull them out if anyone is.

Exactly robertdot--but we did not have to do that to get to the tabs--the cloth seats give enough to get your hands down there--maybe if you have fat hands then you need to take the seats out. The seats are gonna come out to finish the install with the amp and what not.
