Audiovox FM modulator Ipod solution!

Just had the FMM100A Adiovox modulator (49 bucks at circuit city) installed by a best buy Technician. Let me tell you, maybe it ain't perfect b/c it has the limitations of FM, but IT BEATS THE CRAP OUT OF ANY AND ALL WIRELESS FM MODULATORS. Also most folks have said that it rivals or is better than the cassette tape adapters that some people use (which always break). The sound volume is excellent and distortion is only at very high volume levels. Even quiet acoustic passages sound great. The modulator transmits on two different frequencies (like 89.1 and 88.7) it is powered and has a cutoff switch (that my tech mounted in the RX8 ashtray. When you switch on the device it instantly silences all static and any stray radio stations. I didn't hear any hiss at all until my volume was up to like 75%. I used the nyko technologies stereo link to hook up the ipod as it uses the line out from the bottom of the unit to two RCA phono plugs. These in turn plug into the ground loop isolator that comes with the FM mod unit. I already ordered the SiK Imp charger and audio out, because you can't charge the iPOD with the nyko line out unit. If you choose "sound check on" on the Ipod it evens out the output level of the songs and you don't have to adjust the stereo so much. So.....If you are using your satellite radio AND you want your ipod, this is a very reasonable and inexpensive solution, that sounds very good.
I am also using the Ijet remote (that has a passthrough port on the bottom for charging and audio) and I throw the ipod into the center console and have the remote clipped to my visor for advancing songs and pausing playback.

All in all I am VERY pleased with this work-around solution. I would easily say its the next best thing to a factory aux input. non-audiophiles probably wouldn't even know it is FM.....

Having an older pre 9.55 firmware headunit, I decided to buy one of these based on this thread, found it on ebay for pretty cheap. Just got around to installing it a couple days ago. I plan on getting a charger soon. I didn't have my camera on me when I did the install, but I took a few pics today of the finished product...

Radio tuned to 89.1:

In the cup holders:

Overall I am very pleased with it, it works great and was pretty inexpensive. The sound is really good, but I find if the Ipod volume is at max. you get a little distortion, easily solved by turning the Ipod volume down to about 90% and turning up the headunit volume a little more. FWIW I am using an 8 gig nano.

make sure to get the monstercable charger that had the line level output jack on the side. It is the monster IcarCharger....

Also if you buy the JET ipod remote control it is the only remote with a passthrough port so you can plug the remote into the bottom of your ipod then plug the charger into the bottom of the remote. Because the remote is not infrared (it is radio) you can keep the ipod hidden and still use the remote. It works great!

Where did you mount the modulator? Where did you splice for the power? I just ordered one from Crutchfield.com and I am waiting on delivery. I have been trying to decide how to hook it up.

I had best buy install it. don't know exactly where he stuck it....better yet. I'd go with the auxmod from sylfex.com. It is much much better. Best buy installed that too. with a ground loop isolator (also at crutchfield) it is perfect. It wasn't the aux mod advanced, but the basic and the ipod sounds fantastic!

the sylfex.com product looks interesting and would have been a good option but I got the FM Modulator for $30. 1/2 the price of the sylfex.com product.
