i just bought a FI SSD 12 and a srq single center mount box. running a hifonics brutus 1610 amp. ill post pictures as soon as i get it all installed. i'm runnin a jvc xg700 head unit. it was as close to stock looking as i could find.
|
well the head unit took a shit today. won't eject, won't play, won't load. stays on when i cut the car off. so when i called the company i bought it from, they said that it was a refurbished model. i'm pissed. they didn't tell me this. so i payed normal price for a broken piece of shit. when i asked what they refurbished, they said it was the servo motors that eject the cd. awesome. two months later, they crap out again. and the people say it was an as is purchase. so i've gotta buy another one
|
Where did you buy it from? eBay? Make a claim through Paypal. If they didn't disclose it was a refurb model, but sent you one anyway, that's a no-no.
Lesson learned either way. |
well years of being a ford mechanic payed off. i took it out. dropped three or four inches on the concrete, plugged it back in and the servos whirred up and shot the cd out. works like a charm.:mdrmed: i am happy again. bought a power acoustik 4" cheapo to replace the blown center speaker. hopefully i can make it fit pretty easily

My install is linked in my sig, all amps/speakers are Vibe, all wire is Metra/Tsunami, sound deadened the entire floor and other parts of the car with Ballistic deadener, custom built dash bezel/kit using parts of the Metra kit (which I helped to bring to market to some extent) as well. My amps are actually submerged in liquid, we used mineral oil for cooling and effect, also have 2 7 inch monitors in the trunk, 2 10 inch on each side of the base of my amp racks, all pieces hand built, hand sanded and smoothed, professionally painted then the artwork was hand painted as well. I also have a rotating ball for a sub enclosure, it plays while the ball is "spinning". I'm also using the Avic z110bt for a head unit, so far I'm loving it compared to my D3 which finally quit after a few years. I also have a Ps3 on a linear actuator that rises out of where my back "package tray" is, which is also where we built some custom accent pieces that are edge lit. (We got the idea looking at Mazda concept car interiors) we also have led's everywhere to show everything, including the custom built to spec kick panels I have in the floors which house part of my front stage etc.
I'm scheduled for an upcoming professional photo shoot/magazine feature so hopefully I'll have some really nice pics to share soon, unfortunately I've not had much opportunity to shoot my own due to my newish job I started 8 months ago. (after losing my last one unexpectedly in march of 09) I know it's over the top, but we built it that way on purpose for the Vibe/Metra booth at Sema last year to draw people into the booth and to do something truly different and we accomplished both lol, feel free to send me any questions you might have, I'm happy to help out and I have a tiny bit of time to respond to pm's etc. now compared to in the past when I've been buried dawn to dusk etc. |

Thanks y'all, believe it or not I sincerely do appreciate the kind words. My friends and I put a lot of hours and have sacrificed alot to get my car where it's at so it's extra special when I see people taking pictures of it at shows, or throwing compliments my way etc. I saw it on tv the other night in a lincolntech commercial on speed channel, they got permission from Sema to use it but I didn't even know about it, it's a trip sitting there watching television and all of a sudden you see your car flash across the screen unexpectedly lol I'm hoping the magazine thing works out, we did a lot of really cool things install wise and I can't wait to share it with everyone :)

Use this momentum to gain popularity, then partner with an audio company or open your own business. Make a living doing what you love.
|
Wow. You definitely know what you're doing. Looks great.
|
Amen to that, been trying to make that happen for years lol

Keep at it bro. Sam Walton had 3-4 failed companies before WalMart.

I have the factory Bose system and love it. For this reason I have not upgraded. All my other cars have aftermarket systems.

youd love an aftermarket system more |
Dude, putting in an aftermarket hu is pure sex to your ears. You can adjust the parameters of the eq, get rid of the washy bass up front and the tweets sound a lot more crisp. Make that one change and you will be bitten by the Rx8 audio bug. Not as bad as canary hopefully. Oh and thread jack, I searched on how to change out that center speaker, couldn't find anything. Any help?

What are you trying to do with the center channel, just replace it? or? Mine's been replaced with a custom mount for my GPS antenna, just be careful removing the grill as it can snap pretty easy if you're not careful. |
That speaker is blown. I was gonna see if I could rig a 4" in there, if not maybe some tweeters. At the bare minimum, rip it out. But I have no clue how to even get to it. I wouldn't mind gettin the dash center out to give it a good cleaning
|
I loved the stock speakers till I put in a sub, then I was kicking myself for not getting one sooner. I loved that till my front speakers started flaking on me and I replaced the door and tweeters, now i'm kicking myself again for not doing it sooner.
The stock system is really good for stock, but does not hold a candle to a well thought out aftermarket set up. |

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...am_SST-22.aspx Just one of those in the factory center location sounds awesome, we did it on mine just playing around a while back and it was perfect, it is a huge tweeter though so keep that in mind, they do make a slightly smaller one but it's not nearly as dynamic. |

Open the center console and start popping free the panel around the shifter. Then you'll see the screws for the ashtray. Then you'll see the screws for the headunit. Then you'll be able to remove the air vents. Then you'll be able to remove the LCD display. Then you'll be able to remove the top hood where the center channel speaker is. |
I pull the radio out constantly. Can't believe I didn't see it. And yeah I'm sure a 70 dollar a piece tweeter does sound good. But like I said canary. Not all of us got bit by the bug that bad.

One thing I've learned after all these years is buy what you want the first tme. I'm currently suffering for it with my 8, I didn't buy the suspension I wanted and it cost me 2 magazine shoots at Sema (both were from overseas too...grr) as I bought cheaper stuff and it failed right after ther show, I also went through it with wheels before I got the Work's I have now, auto parts is another one, buying cheap stuff instead of buying real stuff or the stuff you really want will cost you more in the long run. You don't have to be "bitten by the bug" or super into something to know that if you just spend the extra cash, even if it means it might take longer to get it, you will be happier in the long term. |
