Audio Pilot...
 

I have been an audiophile for years. I have excellent hearing, but I honestly cant hear a damn thing different when I turn Audio Pilot on or off. Is there some sort of test I can use to verify it works??

Audio pilot is supposed to automatically adjust the volume of the stereo to accomodate changing levels of cockpit noise.... so if it's working correctly, you shouldn't hear anything different; i.e., the volume of the music should sound the same to you whether you're going 70MPH on the highway or idling at a stoplight.

However, I've found that Audio Pilot seems biased to correct more for low-frequency cockpit noise, like going over a rough road. I'll notice an audible volume increase then. But if the ambient noise is more high-frequency (like opening a window or the sunroof at speed), I'll have to manually crank up the volume to be able to hear the stereo.

If you took a poll, you will find what mikeb says is correct - most of us do not use it. But, set your volume at the level you want while sitting at idle, then progagate down the road at higher speeds, like on on-ramp, and then you should hear it adjust the volume louder.

Mine definitely does NOT work. I set it low at an idle and headed onto the highway. No change in volume or sound. I opened the sunroof and windows as well and that also made zero differences. If it is indeed defective, then perhaps I can convince them to get an 2005 unit, because I really want Sirius Satellite radio in my car again. I wonder how they will trouble shoot this to determine whether its defective or not?

Put the Audio Pilot at level 3, zoom up to 50 and then come down to a stop, you'll hear the difference. It also works for me when I lower my window completely. Somehow it raises the volume when the window's down. And then it lowers the volume when I raise the windows.
Pretty cool, but it's kind of annoying sometimes. (I said zoom...:D)

My experience is similar to TxRx8's......
Be sure to turn it up, it is adjustable by the same knob that does Bass & Treble.
I find the 'pilot is particularly sensitive to the buffetting wind noise you get with a window that is just cracked open.
Try steady cruising , set the sound level (make sure it's on FM or CD, it don't work with AM!) then crack your window......

I notice the volume go up and down sometimes, usually only down when I come to a stop, occasionally i hear it go up while I'm accelerating

I cant adjust mine with the knob. It is either "on" or "off". My HU is firmware 9.55. Is the fact that I cant adjust it an indication that its defective? This is the BOSE audio and not the standard factory.

I also didn't know that it can be adjusted. Mine is either "on" or "off". Is there another place to adjust it other than the menu to turn it on or off?

I've got the AudioPilot in my GT and I've got it on. The ONLY time I can tell that it's operating is at VERY low volumes. If you set the volume at 3 or 4 and drive around you'll hear it doing it's thing. You'll especially hear it when you turn the car off. It will be loud for a second and then decrease in intensity. Most of the time though with the volume settings at or above 7-9 I never hear the audio pilot working. If the windows are down I simply have to turn it up louder. As speed increases, I have to turn it up even more.

What I will state, but I cannot confirm to an absolute fact, is that I believe the lower models have a "speed sensitive" volume control that aparrently works better than the AudioPilot does. My AudioPilot is simply selectable on/off. The "speed sensitive" setting I believe has different levels. I think this thread may be confusing the two. I'd check the owner's manual but I'm too lazy to do that right now.

My 2000 GMC Jimmy has speed compensated volume on the Bose/AC/Delco unit. It had 4 positions, off, 1, 2, and 3. With the windows up and set to 1 I could barely perceive the volume change. The sound level remained constant. With the windows down I had to jack it up to 3 and the volume change was more aparrent but it kept up with the ambient noises..

I consider to be a bit of an audiofile as well with pretty good hearing. I beleive the way Pavehawk's describes it is exactly like what I get. However, I notice there is more midrange at all levels of playing with it on and less midrange when it is off. I hate too much midrange so I always have it off.

does the volume display actually increase on the stereo screen? Like if you have it set at 10 and AudioPilot kicks in, will you SEE the display change to 12 or something? I've never noticed this happen...

Not on mine.

all i ever notice when I have it on is that for no apparent reason the sound becomes very muddy at very slow or stopped speeds. i never use it. if i cant hear it, i just use the wheel controls and turn it up!

It works pretty well, could notice it especially at lower volumes. However, audiopilot makes the music sounds like crap. Without it on still sounds like crap, but not as crappy as with it on.

Audiopilot sucks. Period. Mine is turned off.

Left the volume @ 3 and then turned it on and off...I could hear it. You are right....its worthless

The audio pilot in addition to adjusting the volume will also adjust bass/treble. At low volume levels it turns up the "loudness".
