Audio Options (NOT)

I have a 2004 RX without the SAT button on the HU. I've been trying (given the lack of Phatnoise anytime soon) to upgrade my unit to include the Sirius SAT system. Guess what! You have to replace the entire system ... and so with the SAT system you're looking at $1200 PLUS $500 installation! Incredible!

Since SAT isn't an option really....and since Mazda can't get off the dime on the Phatnoise system, it seems the only alternative (that I know of) is the IPod/Icelink system. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable with tearing into my dash and I can't find a local dealer (Tucson) or anyone who's really ever installed the Icelink system.

To say that I feel between the proverbial rock and hard place is an understatement. I'd be happy with Phatnoise OR SAT OR IPod. Anybody with ideas?

search through this group..you will find about 9 million different threads on audio options, how to add aux-in, satellite radio, etc....most of the threads are in the Interiror, Audio, and Electronics sub group.

Do you have BOSE akaSonny? Honestly I'm not impressed by SAT radio at all--I wouldn't waste the money. This is probably because I listen to a lot of underground hip/hop and local hip hop--which won't be on Sirius or XM. An MP3 player will do the trick for me.

Yes I have the BOSE single CD system. I appreciate your comments about SAT but, frankly, ANY SYSTEM would be an improvement over the existing single-CD system.

...and none of the other options are options for me...most are hacks.

Is that via Icelink?

Sure I'd be happy with that setup presuming you're using Icelink?

I KNEW IT--In all my previous cars that have had Bose I've run into that problem; everything has to be rewired for components to work properly. The only thing you can do to Bose is add external input devices (amps/subs etc.) I specifically did not want a GT because of the BOSE system. You can replace your head unit with the factory MP3 player, I think that is the route I'm going. I've already changed my factory speakers out for infinity and routed them via an audiobahn amp; however I plan on switching that amp out for a 5 channel alpine and adding a 8" or 10" sub in the trunk. I like the pass through subs--but I am worried about theft and damage with them being so visible.
