Another Passthrough Sub Thread

Don't know much about fiberglass. Is it practical to construct a fiberglass, 8"subwoofer box using the plastic stock passthrough fixture by removing the back pocket and usiing the front and sides for a stock look. Volume would be about .40 cu feet. This would be removable as a passthrough.

What would it cost to have a custom builder make the box? Any recommendations for a fiberglass box builder?

it would probably be cheaper for you to make your own box. i dont think that you would want to use the plastic piece as part of the enclosure. it's very flimsy. i cut off the pocket on the back side of mine to make room for my audiocontrol 6XS crossover using just my razor knive. i have a similar idea, only this will be an enclosure for the x-over. i removed my back seats(easy to do) and using cardboard made a template for the sides of my enclosure. i cut it to fit the contour of the rear plastic area up to the removable pass through part. i will then use 1/2" wood to make the side pieces. attatch 1/4" wood or any other smooth flexible material to the front sides(just behind the passthrough) . my plan is to then fiberglass this "mold" bondo and paint it the same silver color as my console side pieces. in my case i would use a plexi window but you would need to make the sub rings for your sub to drop in from the front. if done correctly you should still be able to put your removable passthrough back in so no one else can see your sub. for the back you can just make a box out of mdf at the proper size according to your sub specs. and glass the two pieces together.
