Anyone else with an aftermarket amp having radio reception issues??

mikeb 10-16-2003 03:22 PM

what problems are you having dugless

Dugless 10-16-2003 04:05 PM

I'm having a lttle more static in my FM stations. I tried it with the amp off and it's crystal clear.

Is your amp tucked away near the back window?

Dugless 10-16-2003 06:49 PM

Yes....

Kev 10-16-2003 06:56 PM

That'd be upsetting your receiption ... either the amp or speakers are producing interference with the aerial. (my guess)

Kev 10-16-2003 06:57 PM

Is that amp a 500/1? Nice amp :D

mikeb 10-16-2003 07:58 PM

sweet spot for amp

I wonder when someone is gonna put a sub there

Dugless 10-16-2003 08:16 PM

Thank you Captain Obvious!!!:)

I know it's the amp, anybody (MrWigggles) have any suggestions on insulating the antenna?

Dugless 10-16-2003 08:17 PM

And yea, is a 500/1.

Tons of freakin power......

Kev 10-16-2003 09:54 PM

How have you wired the amp? Did you take an earth lead back to the battery or or you using a nearby point on the chassis?

I was planning to possibly go with a 250/1 and 300/4 or 450/4, but to mount them in the small well in the boot and cover them with a grille. (and yes, wire both terminals back to the battery.)

Kev 10-16-2003 10:01 PM

What's that on your rear window?

Dugless 10-16-2003 10:02 PM

I did both. I ran a 4 Gauge ground to the chassis and a 16 gauge ground loop to the battery.

Safe to say it's a field proximity issue then, but whether the field is being emitted by the amp or the speakers is the next question.

Are you able to experiment with leaving te amp in place and moving the sub or leaving the amp on, but disconnecting the speakers?

I have to say that the reception in the 8 very good. i dont have any mods but compare to my 7 that is.

I didnt know that was even an option
nice

Class D amp? I'm not sure about the JL, but I know my Class T (which was Zapco's class D using a Tripath chip) could mess with the reception of cars next to me :D. If your JL is a class D, consider yourself lucky you get any reception at all.

Dugless 10-18-2003 09:44 PM

Any way to insulate it?

Oh yes, you're right. Here I was thinking there was something really interesting on the back glass
