Amp rack in rear wheel well?

Has anyone done an amp install using the space behind the rear wheels (where the 4080 box sits)?

I ask because it is absolutely imperative that I keep the "tub" area clear. It is the only space where my two Technics turntables will fit stacked on top of each other in their road cases.

I plan on getting the Zenclosures box for one 12" (like having the extra chamber volume), and will be getting a conservative, not huge amplifier.

I know these probably aren't pre fabricated like the tub style ones are, but has anyone got any pictures or a DIY experience?

I believe the same company makes the amp rack. You should search for it on their site.

LunchBoxCritter mounted his up between the rear speakers. Just an idea for you.

If the height reduction would prevent you from fitting your turntables, maybe look for a skinny amp that actually "fits" between the rear speakers. So it doesn't need to be mounted below that horizontal cross bar. Very short, or no, spacers would be needed. Get what I'm saying? Not sure how much room is up there. Sold the 8, so I can't look.:(

EDIT: Just a random thought and I have no clue if it would fit, but I know the Kicker ZX400.1 is pretty darn small and outputs quite a bit of power (probably ~500WRMSx1@2ohms). Or the newer DX500.1 is pretty small too.

recover: They definitely do, and it is a great solution and fairly cheap, but the one they make would sacrifice the space I need to keep.

firebirdude: That looks like a better solution than even my idea of behind the wheel well. I will take some measurements and post them up so that anyone searching in the future can find them. Thanks.

Ahhhh, crap. Looks like it was such a good solution that Mazda already thought of it when the mounted their Bose amplifier!

I want this car to be able to revert back to stock when I sell it in a couple years, so mucking around too much with the factory system isn't an option.

In case anyone else was wondering though, you've safely got 13"L x 10"W x 2.5"H if you want to mount it flush between the two 6x9's underneath the rear deck.

Also, the dimensions of the Kicker DX500.1 are 10-3/8"L x 8-3/16"W x 2-3/16"H, so it will work in that space.

Ahhh you've got Bose.

Well it shouldn't be too hard to mock up a little amp rack to go over the wheel well.
