altering top centre dash for headunit
i managed to get the top centre dash trim piece off ebay for £50 and i am going to give it to a shop to alter so it can fit a single din headunit in there.
i have seen one example here - http://www.melting-pot.com/website/p...sivad900j.html - but its not the prettiest job there is also that new dash kit that has popped up - https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/after-market-nav-magazine-pic-91638/ has anybody done this and kept it looking clean? are there any issues i need to be aware of? i have the bose system but obviously i dont want to touch the stock unit, id rather just put in the new headunit, new 6.5s for the front doors and a sub at the back. thanks. |
You are going to be glassing on the inside of your car. Potential pitfalls = spilling resin all over everything and replacing panels. It is far easier to take the dash out of the car and work on it from the outside. I have a spare dash for a 8 for this very reason.

i have a spare dash, thats what i got off ebay. just the top portion. i assume nothing else is needed to modify it?

what are your plans? make it flip open like stock or just an opening to fit a screen?
|
probably just an opening to fit a single din headunit, i have no need for a screen. i would love to have it retracting but i think that will cost too much.
