I already searched...:anger:

Eventually im looking at replacing my radio and get a touch screen unit.
Now i know im going to have to get a new cover.

What is a good radio that isnt a slide out.
I think im trying to look into a full screen touch radio.
One needs to have dvd player, AUX port, Mp3 format.

i want it to be nice.

anyone have a nice full screen touch radio?

Give me some opinions on good radios.

Price is deff a problem too.

there is a ton of great choices for touchscreen headunits. i actually decided to go with the eclipse avn726. its a great screen the only thing i would let you know is that if your going with a navigation unit, its bit low so its hard to keep your eyes on the road and take a look at it.. its not very clear but will take better pics if you want a better view.

pioneer makes a good line of the headunit that you describe. In case you don't want to search, you are looking for a double-din style headunit that has a touchscreen and in order for it to work in an RX8(for the most part) you will need to buy the metra kit for the rx8 which has most of the necessary cables, adapters, and instructions that you need. I have the pioneer avh-p4100 headunit and it is really nice and works well with my ipod

ZumnRx8 04-18-2010 08:06 PM

Same as me ^^^ many ppl had/ have that one really great for those that already have stock Navigation

firebirdude 04-18-2010 09:49 PM

Pioneer. Competitively priced. Voted easiest to use navigation.

MarcMiller 04-18-2010 10:28 PM

im not looking for a nav system...i think if i get one without a nav system it will be alot cheaper.

im looking for something nice and resonable.

firebirdude 04-18-2010 10:46 PM

lol well they make plenty of them too!

AVH-3200BT comes with built in bluetooth.

The 4200 is a little more money AND doesn't have bluetooth.... but has a slightly larger screen.

When i replace the radio im going to need a new cover that it'll fit in. The ac and heat controls and all too.

firebirdude 04-19-2010 09:54 AM

Metra 95-7510HG
is all you need.

My vote sticks with the 3200BT. Outstanding deal with built in bluetooth.

Is it worth getting a pioneer P4200 if I have the Bose system? I would like to add the unit but i'm not sure if the bose speakers will connect fully with the touchscreen...any ideas?

I told you what the differences were. The 4200 does have a larger screen, but it does not have built-in bluetooth. Bose or no Bose. It doesn't matter which you choose. They will both work great once you use the Metra kit.

Thanks, I wasn't concerned with the model differences but rather the compatibility with the extra bose speakers. Last question, if I get the 4100/4200 and the metra kit, will the steering wheel controls still work to change songs and volume?

i have a pioneer x910bt and i love it. it has navigation which you said you don't need but good luck finding a large selection with your criteria without navigation. i think that will severely limit your options.

No. You will need to purchase the PAC SWI-PS as well. Anytime you remove the factory radio in any car, you lose steering wheel controls. The PAC module brings em back.:)

pioneer with bluetooth. i love it i flush mounted the mic for the bluetooth in the little kick panel next to dsc. in the trunk its a JL W3 size 13.5" with a JL 500/v2 amp. i burped a 110 in an spl contest at a car show so its not quiet lol its also really light the whole setup weighs about 25 lbs

RX8Geek 04-23-2010 02:28 PM

SWC controls

Try the Metra ASWC for the steering wheel controls. No programming, it automatically recognizes the RX8 controls, recognizes the radio, and maps the buttons for you (you can re-map them if you want to). No lag time, either. Just make sure that the radio has a wired SWC input.

firebirdude 04-23-2010 10:15 PM

Which all Pioneers do. Even the cheap $89 ones.

Press and hold the A/C Mode button to scroll through the various kit options (AMB
TEMP ON or OFF, AMB TEMP C or F, SET TIME 12/24H, and SET TEXT).
1
When you see the option you want just let the button go and the action on the
screen will be performed. (ie: To turn the ambient temperature on you would scroll
through until the display says “AMB TEMP ON” and let the button go.)
2
To set the time hold down the A/C Mode button until the display says “SET TIME
12/24H” then let the button go.
3
To switch between 12H and 24H press the front defrost button to the left of the
A/C Mode button.
4
To change the Hour press the rear defrost button to the right of the A/C Mode
button.
5
6 To change the minute press the A/C button at the top of the A/C Mode button.
At any time if you do not press any buttons for 5 seconds the display will save and
return to the default screen and the climate control buttons will return to their
normal configuration.
7
If you hold the A/C Mode button down long enough the display will say “SET
TEXT”. This will allow you customize the default text on the display.
8
Once the display says “SET TEXT” let go and the first letter of the display will begin
blinking.
9
Press the front defrost button to move the cursor left and the rear defrost button
to move the cursor to the right.
10
You can scroll up with the A/C button and down with the Recirc/Fresh button
through the various alpha, numeric, and symbol characters.
11
When you are finished entering your text if you do not press any buttons for 5 seconds
the display will save and return to the default screen and the climate control
buttons will return to their normal configuration.

steering wheel controls

I want to replace my head unit with a double din touch screen. My question is would the steering wheel volume control, mute and next/previous buttons work on the new touch screen head unit?

Somebody please answer or redirect me towards the answer :)

hello, i have been looking everywhere and can't find the answer, or come even close to a solution.
Help please.
I went to my local shop that does all kind of stuff with electronics.
i asked him if he could install me an aftermarket touchscreen radio.
he said he could do it, and has done to the rx8 before.
i also asked if i will be able to keep my factory navigation system properly working.
he said no that i would lose it totally. is this true, or is there a way of keeping the factory navy with aftermarket touchscreen radio?

gmoney 12-24-2013 06:52 PM

False!! Your navi will still work

gmoney 12-24-2013 06:54 PM

It took me an hr to change mine from stock to a dbl din Pioneer 8500bhs.....

Looks like the newest edition of the Metra kit works with auto climate controls.

You will need the Metra kit and, optionally, a SWC adapter. The Axxess controller in the Metra kit needs to have firmware 2.0 or greater to be compatible with the auto climate controls. New kits have been shipping with the new firmware since August 2012).
