Aftermarket steering wheel horn connection.

First of all I've searched to see if there was a detailed way to hook up the horn to an aftermarket steering wheel. I found one thread but it wasn't really detailed. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...emoval-149796/

So my question is, does anyone know how to connect the horn to an aftermarket steering wheel?? I have an NRG short hub and NRG steering wheel. I've connected all of the connectors that came with the short hub, and steering wheel, yet my horn doesn't work. I also had to remove the clock spring in order for the short hub to fit.

You have to connect the horn wires to the wiring harness...can't remember which wires they were...but it will work if you hook it up :)

Do you have a wiring diagram?

Hmm I hooked up all the wires properly.... I'll upload some pics here in a few. Maybe you can tell if I'm missing something lol

If you touch the wires manually does the horn go off? If it does you need to check the way the hub connectors go together

Well that's the thing, there wasn't really anything to "touch" the wires to. I had to remove the clock spring, which has both the horn wires and airbag wires, in order to for the short hub to fit. I've attached some pictures, the first picture is the clock spring that I had to remove in order for the short hub to fit, and the second picture are the connectors to the horn and airbag.

and yes after I installed the short hub I touch both wires that came with it but the horn didn't go off.

Im trying to remember what I did. Seems to me you ground the horn wire for it to activate. I had to make a delrin adapter to get the connector pins to touch after the clock spring was removed

Yeah I figured that I had to ground the horn wire, but I'm not really good with wires and stuff like that, and I don't know how to rig it to make it work :/ lol

I wish my horn works too =(

I'll try and remember to do a diy for the install when I start working on my car again. I am going to re-do the adapter to make it simpler to reproduce

Yes that would be awesome :) I was actually thinking about buying some hella supertones and connecting those wires onto the steering wheel horn. Do you think that will work??

THANK YOU!!! can't wait for the DIY, thanks!

Hey I don't have mine installed yet so I don't have pics but for the NRG hub, to get the horn working,

Just wire in a wire to the last pin (far right on manuals is listed as G/L but looks to be green with orange stripe) on the steering rack side then extend the wire attach it somewhere so that the wire end can come into contact with the copper rear of the NRG hub.

My suggestion would be to either wire a spring contact or just get the wires and fan them out so there's constant contact with the back of the hub.

How did you guys get over the alignment issue with the NRG hub and the steering angle sensor? I know the holes and the sensor plastic pins are perpendicular to each other. Someone posted that they just drilled holes into the hub but I don't have easy access to a drill and wondering if there's a much easier fix?
