Advanced Keyless with or vs After Market Alarm

Hey all,

Please don't pull out the flame throwers. I have been searching around the forum but haven't found the answer I am looking for.

I am garaging my RX8 for the snow season and plan on some things I'd like to get done. Of those are several electronics project like replacing the head unit, amps, lighting, etc. So I want this stuff to be protected, obviously. I've got a 2006 GT with Advanced Keyless Entry. The manual says it has 'theft deterrent' but I haven't been able to track down what that is exactly. I even went to my Mazda dealer where I bought the car, they were clueless so they gave me a number at Mazda to call. I called and they were clueless as well. Sooo...

I've seen the add-on shock sensor but that explicitly states 'Not for Advanced Keyless Entry'. Does the 'theft deterrent' system I currently have include any kind of alarm if windows break or the car is jarred hard enough? I've tried jarring the car with it locked but nothing happens. I am not about to break a window to test and I don't want to jar the car to hard :-) If not, has anyone successfully integrated an after market alarm system with the A.K.E. fob? I don't really want to carry around a separate alarm fob. I like how the A.K.E. fob fits in my pocket. I don't carry a key ring. Really all it would take for me is some relay somewhere that opens or closes with the door locks, so I can wire in an alarm to engage/disengage with just the doors locking/unlocking.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Jason

Ok, so I figured out that the 'manual' I was looking at wasn't the actual owner's manual. I found the actual owner's manual and it described the theft deterrent system much better. It does have an alarm and I successfully test triggered it by rolling down a window, closing all doors, locking with the key fob, then I reached in and unlocked the card from the inside and the alarm went off. Now I am still trying to figure out if there is a shock sensor or anything that will detect breaking glass. If there is no shock sensor and the thief knows this car then my concern is that they could still break a window and climb in to yank what they want.

Sooo... still wondering if anyone knows if there is a shock sensor/glass breakage sensor, or if there is a compatible add-on for RX8's with the Advanced Keyless Entry.

Thanks!

mazda has a optional shock sensor not sure how well it works but if u look around its a pretty cheap addon, which i may get cause people keep trying to break in to my car

The shock sensor add on does NOT work with the A.K.E.

I had this dilemma a few months ago when I was looking at an aftermarket alarm, but I didn't want to get rid of my AKE.

If I understand correctly, it's either good aftermarket alarm, OR AKE.

You would think that Mazda would want to protect their higher-leveled models just as much, or more so than the sport model (the one's without AKE).

Yeah, I was surprised that you can add the shock sensor to the 'basic' level system but not the 'advanced' system.
