Yeh, I was looking up some stats on the TT, cause when I was driving it the TT seemed heavier than the 8 and slower to accelerate, but the 0-60 is about 7.3 on the TT and 5.9 on our 8's so a pretty big difference. I'm sure if you added aftermarket parts on the TT, you'd be able to get that thing flying, such a small car.

blacxicano 08-03-2005 04:41 PM

Wasnt there a magazine that did a comparison between a TT, 8, and stang. And the TT wound up being pretty quick..but they did say that 8 was a very fun drive.

Alright guys, I just got back from the audio shop and the process is finally over! I picked up the car today and everything works. The stock deck is mounted in the trunk, the mold is painted and finished, and everything looks great. I am extremely happy with how this turned out. It is smooth and matches perfectly with our pieces by our window controls. Here are the pictures of the finished product!

Pkskull77 08-03-2005 07:04 PM

That looks absolutely fantastic, congratulations you must be very happy with it.

moRotorMotor 08-03-2005 07:05 PM

I think it's safe to say you are the envy of most RX-8 owners!

Tigerfootball 08-03-2005 07:12 PM

VERY nice! i'm jealous. :)

Now thats sexy...

Tamas 08-03-2005 09:11 PM

Awesome.
I need to drive down to Los Gatos to see it in person :D

Bonton 08-03-2005 09:53 PM

That turned out really good!

Moostafa29 08-03-2005 09:56 PM

VERY nice job. Congrats. How does it look in the trunk, with the stock deck sitting there?

lethologica 08-03-2005 10:10 PM

Is the installer willing to make copies of that piece and sell them individually?

moRotorMotor 08-03-2005 10:19 PM

^Ditto, what he said.^

HardHitter 08-03-2005 10:38 PM

I talked to him before and he was saying how difficult it would be to mass produce something like that and then distribute them. It took them a lot of work to do it, so he said that it will basically just be a special job for those who come in. The stock deck right now is being held by that strap in the back of our car right now, but an enclosure will be made soon for it and it will be in the corner of the trunk.

StealthFox 08-04-2005 01:24 AM

wow that looks really good!!! how much did it all end up costing you(the labor, not the actual alarm/screen/electronics) including the glassing/the paint the electrical work, etc

HardHitter 08-04-2005 01:49 AM

I cannot reveal the price for the labor because it was a lot cheaper than it should have been. In the end, he said he should of charged me $1500 for labor, but it was a large portion less than 1/2 of what he was supposed to charge me. I really got away with the labor charge, but now that he knows how hard an RX-8 is, basically a learning experience for him too, so it worked out for the both of us.

StealthFox 08-04-2005 01:54 AM

'gotcha, so i can expect 1500 plus electronics costs?

cleoent 08-04-2005 10:11 AM

sweet!

HardHitter 08-04-2005 10:40 AM

No, he said it should have been around $1500 for labor charge for me, but he only charged me a good amount less than 1/2 of $1500 because he didn't expect the job to be hard, so I really got away with how much labor was supposed to be.

blacxicano 08-04-2005 12:08 PM

Hey hardhitter where did you wind up mounting the old unit.. can you post of that please.

A few places that Ive shopped qouted me about a grand. Hey Rob how much would you have charged..

HardHitter 08-04-2005 12:59 PM

The placed the stock deck in the trunk where those straps are for the time being, they are going to relocate it in the corner of the trunk by the taillights there and make a enclosure for it.

forbidden 08-04-2005 01:13 PM

The amount of fabriaction can differ from vehicle to vehicle. My dash bezels are much more involved than the great job shown a page back. I too would be charging a good amount of $ for the job. A good paint job is next on the list, 4th time lucky for me? Paint and time for it is not cheap. The actual manufacturing of the unit and the layup of the glass and bondo is easy, as is the deck removal. It just takes time and lots of it. $1500 US is not out of line at all.

portero23 08-04-2005 04:14 PM

Can you take some pictures of the factory head relocation? I know it's not the final spot, but I'm still curious to see what it looks like.

Late to the show...but that really looks sharp...wow!

I really should visit other sections on this webiste...I must miss a bunch of cool stuff!!!

I would love something like that...but one thing I love and would not like to lose is the steering radio controls. Maybe one day in the future I'll try something like that...very cool, GOOD JOB!!!

lesper4 04-17-2006 10:00 PM

looks very nice, you lost all STUFF in front the shift nob/below the ac controls? I woudl like to see a pic of what/how you located your stock HU

HardHitter 04-18-2006 12:19 AM

Sadly, the car is totalled :-(

www.cardomain.com/id/silverrx8

Go ahead and check out my rx8. The deck is located in the trunk in the corner.

buzzardsluck 04-18-2006 12:45 AM

^^Do you ever take those driving lessons????

HardHitter 04-18-2006 01:01 AM

Waiting on gettings the funds, will most likely take them during the summer as I really don't have the funds right now. Once I get working full time in the summer, I'll be able to do it. Car is a blast and really just enjoying it right now. I do miss my 8 though, wish I still had it for a daily driver. If I still had the 8, I'd definatly be working on my FD as a project car.

Did you strip the custom head unit out or was it damaged. I remember your wreck thread, but I joined the forum slightly after this thread went dormant last August so I never saw the custom stereo install until now.

Seems like you could have resold that if it all still worked and recovered some of your loss.

Detrich 04-18-2006 01:14 PM

suuhWEEEET. congrats on the screen. :)

HardHitter 04-18-2006 01:42 PM

Car was kept by insurance since it was labeled totalled, never bought car back to part out because insurance gave me all the money I paid for the car + $500 + the $5000 I put into the car. So I got all my money back paid for the car/mods + $500. I couldn't find out where they were selling the car either so I could buy it back and part things out, or I don't know the price either, probably would have been more than what I could of parted my things out for so it wasn't worth it.

Ug, tasteless comment considering he wrecked the car in one of the more grisley accidents we've heard about here on the forum.

-10 for not reading the last few posts or checking dates. :nono:

Jeager76 04-25-2006 10:52 AM

damn, man, talk about a sad tale, reading through this thread going from being impressed at the work and effort you put into the car to the sadness of its end. It gave me a sick feeling seeing all the incremental (and awesome improvments) and see the last update with the damage.

Sorry man, at least you were ok, and you got credit for all your mods and such.

StealthFox 04-25-2006 02:38 PM

ah so you're the one who bought BlueRex's FD. why was he selling it anyway? i forgot, but strange replacement, never heard of someone going from an rx8 to an FD. be careful with it though, those cars have an extremely high mortality rate and are about 10x more tail happy. deflate those rear tires no more than 28psi , keep under 8kg rated springs in the rear and don't run an aggressive rear sway bar for safety.
