Hi,
On my newly purchased 2008 RX8, there is a 30-pin Apple iPod connector in the glove box (oem integration kit)

It works fine with an iPod attached, but when I try a 30-pin bluetooth adapter (like this one: 30pin Bluetooth Wireless A2DP Music Audio Receiver Adapter for iPhone Samsung ZQ | eBay ) the music plays for a split-second, then stops. Nothing can get it to play. Has anyone ever had luck using these bluetooth adapters on a iPod integration kit?

Update:
Got the PassPORT; if I connect it when the car is off, it will work for like 30 seconds once I turn the car on then it cuts out. If I try connecting the the Bluetooth when the car is on and playing FM or CD, when I switch to AUX it says "NO DISC". The only way to connect is to turn the car off and on again.

Is this a firmware issue, any updates?

Scosche passPORT

I think this will work. You'll need to use this in conjunction with the bluetooth transmitter. At least in theory it should work. I've been contemplating buying one to use in my mazdaspeed6. If it works comment back and let me know.

Maybe because the bluetooth isn't built for the ipod connector?

you're not getting why the Scosche passPORT is needed...
The product I suggested takes the old style 30pin connector (which has the power source at a different pin out) and sends the power pinout to the pin that the bluetooth adapter can use.

Ipod hookup > Scosche passPORT > bluetooth adaptor= success (theoretically)

damn, now I feel like a bad guy for leading you down the wrong path. Theorectically, it should have worked. Well, it kind of does, but I'm not sure why it only plays under certain circumstances. Something else must be at play here. To my understadning the only thing holding it back was getting power to the bluetooth reciever.

ktec 07-18-2014 10:00 AM

No worries man. As for power, the bt adapter has a light that shows if its getting power, which would light up even before the passport, so ya really strange.
If anyone has experience with this, please chime in.

30-pin to bluetooth...

I have been talking both with Viseeo (who makes the Tune2Air) and other companies making similar devices.

Unfortunately, none really do what I was looking for, which essentially would be a device you plug into your 30-pin connector in the car, and then your phone is available trhough the stereo. Both control, sound, and track information. None of the companies I talked to seems to really be interested in fixing it either.
The Tune2Air comes closest, in that it do provide the functionality, but only if you have an Apple device. For non-Apple devices, it has some limited functionality only. But worse is that the Tune2Air seems buggy, and at least for me only works about 1 time out of three.

If anyone know of any other devices worth testing, let me know.

For now, I have decided that I will build the device I need myself. I have all the components, and have a prototype running already. Still need to fix a couple of bugs, and then make a neat small pcb and package to have in my car.
Unfortunately, making these things myself don't exactly make them as cheap as some (non-working) options out there. I'd guess the cost for a device ends up at about $150 in the end. Possibly that price could drop some if I bought components for lots of them. Also, it will not be fast actually assembling them. But if anyone would be interested, they can contact me.

Also, if anyone have any questions about more details surrounding all of this, just ask.

Ktec, do you have an iPhone? Maybe you need an iPhone for it to work. Have you tried connecting your Bluetooth adapter to another car? Or an iPod dock at home? Still cuts out in 30 seconds?

I have an iPhone and i'm thinking of doing this. Let me know if you have an iPhone, because if it doesn't work even on an iPhone, there's no point in me buying one.

Did anyone ever work out why the (possibly) stock 30-pin adapter with a Bluetooth adapter works for about 10-15 seconds and the. Turns off the head unit?

The 30-pin connector with an official apple 30-pin to lighting adapter works - somewhat.
If I plug it in, it automaticalt starts playing the first alphabetic song in my music library. If I pause and select audio from another app, like YouTube or podcasts, it works fine. Quite annoying how it auto plays when connected.
I didn't have luck with an aftermarket 30-pin to lightning adapter.

I don't understand why the Bluetooth adapter doesn't work. These things were built for people who had expensive dock systems when apple went to the lightning dock over the 30-pin. Way before manufacturers were able to call ch up and roll out docks with the updated connnectors, these thing were working for people..
