06 GT key programming...

Ok, so in the manual it outlines the key being able to be programmed to lock/unlock doors when leaving/approaching the car. It states you should take the car to a service center to have this done...and of course pay $$$.

They must be doing this from a manual...anyone have any clue how to do this?

Yeah really. You may want to ask BunnyGirl about this. She mentioned in a PM that you can turn on this "auto lock" feature that allows the doors to be locked when you walk a few feet away from the car. I think this is almost a must because from what I understand the alarm can only be set by the credit card FOB or by using the auto-lock feature. Since the whole idea of the credit card deal is to not have to fuss with anything, I would think the auto-lock thing would be turned on by default.

In any event, PM Bunny and see what she's done with her 06.

Yeah, it says in the manual that it's possible to do...as i said, the dealership wants to $$$ for it, typical...it's easy now, you just hit the button on the door handle to lock the car after exiting, but' i'd prefer to just walk away and trust the car to lock itself!

That's tek!

When you hit the button on the door handle (presumably outside door handle) does it arm the alarm as well?

I took my car to the dealership to have the Auto-Lock feature enabled and they didn't charge me anything. I'm with you though, I know it has to be easy because it didn't take them 10 minutes to do it. I just didn't think to ask here first, though it doesn't look like anyone knows how to change it. I didn't get to watch them change mine or I would share with everyone here. Anyway, it's pretty nice.....when all doors are shut, the car beeps......then once the key is out of range for 3 seconds, the car beeps again and the lights flash to tell you it's locked. The thing is, if you shut the door and walk away too fast....you won't hear that first beep and the car will remain unlocked. It doesn't take but maybe 2 seconds at most for it to beep once all doors are shut though, so it's not a big problem. I just usually stand there outside my door for one or two seconds until everyone has shut their door just to make sure I hear the beep. I have recently found that it will still beep if you walk toward the front of the car after closing the door..... which means that the key is still within range at that point. I've probably confused everyone by now so I'll just end this here. Let me know if anyone has questions. :suspect:

Ok, I think I followed all that. That seems really dumb that you have to wait near the car until all doors are shut before moving away. If I walk out of range, I want the doors to lock -- period. If a friend holds the door open for 5 seconds while I walk away, I want it to lock when the door is shut (or when I walk away and the door is still open).

Meh, I might have to check this out for myself. This convenient system seems to be more bothersome than I'd realized. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, i've learned that they actually have to connect to the car's ecu to change the "Auto-Lock" setting from 0 to 1. It's not some simple "Hold this buttong for 5 seconds, blah blah."

Thanks for the heads up! How do you like the auto-lock?

Anything is possible with time and $$$.

But no, you cannot add the '06 key...the car has a different ECU, a series of sensors, a new ignition and buttons built into the car to facilitate the use of the key.
