Window Trim coming off

Hey all, I have been searching around on the forum for about an hour and still can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. Both the driver and passenger front doors on my 8 have the trim on the exterior right at the base of the window coming off. It a hard plastic and I think it weather stripping about two feet long. Both sides near the back doors are popping out off the car and it doesn’t look to good. I was wondering if anyone knows the name of these and maybe where I could get a new set, or ideas to fix the current ones.
Advice would be very much appreciated.

I am wondering this as well since mine are sort of scuffed looking. Check onlinemazdaparts.com . They have all the replacement parts for the 8. I just can't seem to find it. Does anyone know how easy it is to remove and replace these on all the windows?

I fully realize this thread is 3+ years old. Seeing as how the question was never answered and I just fixed this same problem on my RX-8 I thought I'd post my fix for anyone else who happens to search.

I believe the OP had the same problem as me, which is the front door trim along the pillar is loose as shown here:

If you look closely you can see there is a hole in the door for a clip. The problem is that the clip has broken off of the window trim.

What you need is this piece. It cost a grand total of $1.74 from a Mazda dealer online. Make sure you get the right one. Driver and passenger are different.

The piece looks like this.

You can see the new piece has the clip part that is broken off of the old piece.

To remove the broken clip you have to slide it out of the end of the window trim. I used painters tape to protect the paint.

I had to use a flat head screwdriver to pry the old clip out of the end of the window trim. Be careful with your paint. I used electrical tape on the end of the screwdriver to prevent scratching anything.

Once you have the old clip out you just slide the new one in the window trim and snap it down into the hold in the door.

Thanks Gekko for the posting. I have the same issue on my passenger side door. Now I know how to take care of this.
Do you by chance know how the rest of that trim piece is held in place?

Gekko 09-23-2013 07:28 AM

I'm not positive, but I think the rest is just pushed in from the window side. The parts diagram from Mazda just shows that clip piece and then the rest of the trim piece kind of looks like a channel. On other cars I've worked on that piece just pushes on. I think the piece that I replaced that broke is just needed since the trim extends past the window channel over the door pillar.

I just picked and installed the clip today. It was super easy. Thanks again.
