Window Tinting and Defrost

I'm thinking of getting the windows tinted soon. Someone said that the rear defrost will not work unless it is cut out?

Anyone run into this? Anything I should know before hand?

Not true... I also have had no problems with my defrost... been tinted for about 18 months now. Before you make that leap though... make sure you don't buy metallized tint if you have the factory Navi system.

Who is this someone because the defrosters are suppose to work even with the layer of tint film over it.

I have to disagree with this... I have 100% metallic tint on 5 windows and my navi works perfectly.

... then I guess you found some stuff with low metal content. I tested two different tint materials that were metallized and they both blocked the satellite receiver on the rear deck. Just trying to help someone avoid an expensive mistake.

Sweet Thanks for the input.

mine works too

Rotary Rasp 12-16-2005 12:19 PM

Yea, don't get metalic tint if you have the navi.

almost every car i've ever tinted with nav i tinted with fully metallized film. and if it wasn't fully metallized then it was a hybrid metal/dye film. never one problem with nav. a couple AM reception issues which were easily fixed but never an issue with the nav.

SiLVeRE8 01-31-2006 06:56 PM

mine works normal..

chrism 01-31-2006 09:21 PM

mine works fine

My tint is on the inside of the windshield. Isn't the wiring for the defroster more on the outside? Mine works just fine, regardless.

EfiniRX8 01-31-2006 10:30 PM

I think the wiring is on the inside, but i don't see the tint disrupting the defrost unless you have a break in your defroster lines.

Asmoran 02-01-2006 06:48 AM

The defroster is on the inside, and the tint won't affect it at all.
