What body kits not to buy

Anyone that has had a bad experience due to bad fitment or quality body kits please post your brand of body kit and if it was just the bumper, skirts, or what, and where you got it from. Thnking about MS Bumper due to fitment.

Usually the generics or the replicas. They are cheap, but you get what you paid for.

Jedi54 10-08-2011 07:22 PM

When I saw you posted, I already knew your reply.

This is the Urathane Body Kit
Front Bumper M1 Speed Kit:-$300 Fits quite well, some misalignment around side markers, base does of bumper does not reach under engine cover, slight ripple effect when looking from the side. Over all fitment 8/10

Rear Bumper M1 Speed Kit:- $300 Good fitment slightly off on one side if you look very closely, similar to what you might see with an oem replacement overall 9.5/10

M1 Speed Wind (fiberglass):- $200 Base of spoiler did not fit the boot and needed to be molded but now it looks better than the Mazdaspeed version 8/10

The kit cost more to fit then OEM parts however fitted still cost less than the hardware from Mazdaspeed and looks pretty good.

Also the wife decided to drive into a curb today and the bumper is a little bit scuffed but no real damage these kits will take a beating and not break.

Jedi got it right, stay away from the replicas.

Is the ms kit durable?

Jedi54 10-10-2011 10:50 PM

The authentic MS is.

Mine is because it is Urethane which is basically a strong firm rubber. Stay away from fiberglass which can shatter if you hit curbs etc.

Its a replica, it is this kit but I got the wing instead of the side skirts.

http://www.bodykits.com/Extreme-Dime...110653/614022/

They have a video of them hitting golf ball at it, twisting it and hitting it with a bat. It's bendy and wont break.

Tamas 10-13-2011 07:08 PM

Extreme Dimensions?

There is nothing but bad feedback about their products...

ac3mastuh 10-17-2011 03:01 PM

The Ings kit is made from their material called hybrid aero, its pretty durable and I've had mine for a few years and i even hit a pigeon while going down the freeway and the bumper is still fine with no issues.

There's not a whole lot of other options on the market for something real durable. Your best best for durability is still the mazdaspeed kit from the factory as its basically the same quality as the factory bumper.

I just got mine back from the shop and I also have the Extreme Dimesions bumper.

Over all I give it a 7.5/10 I really do not like the mesh grill that comes with it. The fit is over all good other than the drivers side right around the corner lights.

I would have went the full true mazdaspeed but I didn't get that much from the insurance to allow me to do that.

replica bodyparts suck, you end up spending alot more in bodywork, but if you are going to get replicas, get something fiberglass, its easier to work with, as in fitment, prepwork and it wont sag like urethane

LifeAfterRx8 10-31-2011 03:15 PM

Stay away from extreme dimensions,

My friend purchased a kit from them and the bodyshop he took it too refused to complete the fitting on the kit because it was that bad.

If you love your 8 go authentic.

^^with replicas you will pay an insane amount to get it to fit right if it's fiberglass. If you're ordering anything fiberglass from Japan it's a toss up. It's possible to pay 3 grand for a kit and still need some work.

Hesselrode 11-01-2011 08:38 AM

lordagrabah how well did your bumper fit? It looks nice. was it cheap or expensive?

For some reason it never really looks that good in pictures but in person it looks different in person. I'll try to find a better pic. Basically it's the is abf style from aitracing which is a replica of the abflug kit. The abflug's kit takes a minimum of 3 weeks from Japan if in stock (highly unlikely), about 3 grand, and according to the vendor, may still need body work to get it to fit. So I figured if I had to have work done anyway I'm going with the replica. Probably paid 600 for the bumper, I think a little more than 1500 for paint and install from an awesome shop. The paint matches perfectly and fit is 8-9/10. I guess I saved some money and the it looks great!!! Just don't expect to get everything including purchase and install for under a grand or your car will probably look like crap. Bodykits are expensive but worth it if you can pay to get it done. It's a good insurance mod.

Hesselrode 11-01-2011 09:14 AM

That's not too bad. The whole kit i want is something like 799. I want the razor bumper and side skirts and the aftermarket exhaust finishers or whatever they are in the back.

Brettly2005 11-01-2011 01:09 PM

Im heavily looking into buying the JDM RX8 RX-8 Se3P Auto-Spec Aero Body Kit from Shine Auto. Its made from the hybrid FRP material, and seems pretty durable. Ive seen a few people with it on here, but never really heard about the fitment. If anyone has any info on that kit let me know.

gcthree 12-06-2011 09:53 PM

How about the Racing Beat pieces? RB is known for great quality products; couldn't imagine that they would sell anything less.

Kamui157 12-08-2011 10:49 AM

I have a kbd mazdaspeed replica, 330 shipped from ebay. Fitment was 80% out of the box. 95% if I spent more than 30 minutes to put it on. Cleaned up the sidemarker area with a dremel. Cost me $250 for excellent paint match and shave off the kbd logo. $15 for homedepot grill and spraypaint.

My undershields reach the bumper, ymmv. The area between the headlight and sidemarkers pop out occasionally, I'll stuff something in there later to stop it.

Wish there was a used authentic wb mazdaspeed bumper for sale. But $600 for a painted fairly good fitting bumper is better than $1600 for new.

EricB 12-17-2011 01:43 AM

ive heard alot that KBD is pretty good. ive thought about going ms, i have not seen a 40th anny with ms parts yet. do they only make front bumpers or do they make the spoiler as well?
